Note to POTUS: Why not use convict labor to build the wall and circumvent the "prevailing wage" statutes for construction workers that massively drive up costs?
Because that is basically against Federal law...
Because most convicts have no clue how to use heavy equipment, power tools appropriately, pour concrete footings, run electricity or any other facet of heavy duty construction...
Plus you have the expense of guards to oversee them, places to house them, facilities to feed them--
All located in areas fairly isolated from conventional access to those items...
Just because you use "convict labor" doesn't mean you can escape those expenses...
But it would like of replicate building the pyramids with Hebrew slave labor...
So it might strike a cord with the evangelical, alt-right supporters...
A 3rd century solution to a 21st century problem. How embarrassing. How stupid. What a waste of money.
Saw "The Great Wall" Tuesday with Matt Damon as the Caucasian hero leading the Chinese army against the "female"-led drone army of mythical beasts...intent on taking over the world...
About as realistic as Trump's vision...
If you want a wall, then build one, but make sure Mexico sends the checks first. I have better use for my money.
You better get used to the idea of paying for the wall, perhaps more than once.
In order to start work, Congress will need to appropriate the funds (i.e. taxpayer money).
And if Trump tries to use his tarrif plan to "pass on the costs to Mexico", those costs will likely be paid by us through higher prices on these goods.
Apparently there is an Israeli company already under contract and building parts of a security fence/wall for Arizona and maybe New Mexico
Lot of electronic surveillance more than big, physical barrier from what I understand
That stock has boomed since campaign this summer w/Trump's campaign rhetoric...
And the ONLY people who are paying for this wall will be American taxpayers...
Trump can't seize Mexican assets in the US to,pay for it
Any tariffs on Mexican goods are by by US buyers...comes out of OUR pockets...
If you believe Mexico,is going to pay for this wall, you have no clue about how budgeting happens for government contracts...
The money has to be appropriated BEFORE ANY project starts...
Just some red meat thrown at the base to quench the mob. He'll put a couple trucks full of materials, some guys in hard hats working in the desert with lots of news coverage and they'll work on the same 20 miles of it for the next 2 years. How the heck could any contractor have all the cost estimates in for a 1754 mile wall by the 27th of March?
The same way Trump commanded his underlings to develop a solution for defeating ISIS within 30 days

Yes it does conjure up images of hot young Mexican babes catapulting their babies across the wall for automatic American citizenship and a democratic voter's registration.
And have the guards use the same uniforms -- cool.
Nah, not bloody likely, remember the guy who's behind this hare-brained scheme. Based on his failed fraudulent & litigious business model, it's much more likely to go something like this:
"During a dispute over property lines, workers ripped out a fence near the home of David and Moira Milne, who live in a converted coast-guard station on a hill above the golf course. The Trump workers installed their own fence — and then sent the Milnes a bill for it."
