Beatty and Dunaway were given the wrong envelope.
Blame the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

At this point, I'm not sure which movie did win. If it was a joke, it was a terrible joke to play on Faye Dunaway.

Could it be there was a tie? Has that ever happened? I wouldn't know, but what a horrible ending.

No, they said what was broadcasted. la La Land was well into their acceptance speech before the mistake was known. La La Land was expected to win, so it did seem odd that they were announced the winner.

This isn't rocket science.

I wish you were right. Unfortunately, after they called it for Trump, nothing changed.

An early post in this thread got me thinking... besides Clint Eastwood (actor) and Ted Nugent (musician) are there any other conservatives making big entertainment dollars? And if we take this out to the reductio ad absurdum, aside from several hundred billionaires... and a few thousand really high net worth rent seekers... aren't the vast majority of conservatives fairly average... blue collar even?

That's what is destroying this country and providing most of the negative energy in this thread: conservative hatred of the obvious liberal penchant towards artistic and intellectual success. Success that may not pull down billions, but guarantees a comfortable existence.

The truth is that the real reason the "political speeches" are so offensive to the conservatives that will be watching (no matter what they say here) is that they know in their heart of hearts that the performers are right! The situation is beyond defensible and it cannot be ignored. Should not be ignored. Must not be ignored. It cannot be allowed ever to happen again and the best insurance against that is to drive the point home at every opportunity.
