I dislike ordering steak, for they keep asking how I want it cooked, and refuse to take my answer "chef's option". I will eat it (which I rarely do anyway) rare to well done. Makes no matter to me.
But: bring the ketchup. So I am with President Trump on this issue.
A-1 steak sauce is an abomination on a fine cut of steak. (I know some like it but I like my steak sauce free!).
Or mustard, once the most popular steak condiment, or horse radish, or black pepper.
All steaks were once either eaten in some state of decay or were covered up by something to make the taste of rot less noticeable.
What's 'aging'? Allowing meat to start to decay. Decay makes meat more tender. All condiments go through fads. Trump likes ketchup instead of A-1.
The fact is we are all chicken-eaters now. Beef took a back seat to chicken consumption long ago, and all of us eat less red meat than we once did. Since food is about the single most fad-prone necessity we have, it's only natural anyone who eats a steak with ketchup is going to be looked at funny.
Personally, I love ketchup on a good steak, but only the one brand of ketchup that I like. It's made in Montana, in small batches, and I pour it over just about everything when I feel the need for ketchup. Keeping a spare bottle or two is a big deal for me, as I'll never go back to Heinz again.
But that's just me. If I'm allowed my small indulgences, I figure Don should be allowed his too.
I think most of us feel the same, and this topic was overblown to start with. And the last time I bothered to notice, I saw just as many conservatives eating ketchup as liberals. Ketchup is still apparently fully bi-partisan, and I doubt Trump's steak shocked anyone except for the billionaire elite who run around with him. Snobbery is bi-partisan too.
French Mustard or Dijon mustard is the usual condiment in terms of steak the UK, whilst chips (french fries) usually have salt (sometimes vinegar) and tomato ketchup on them.
Oogabooga. Man eat meat well done. Is that better?
I like mine mooooooing and flame kissed.
