Some people were too dumb to think about how they were going to support themselves. For some reason they thought they could do it on a McD job.

And even less jobs available because you have to compete with illegal immigrants for the jobs. Liberals LOL, they can't think past their nose.

This will continue to happen all over the country it has nothing to do with the minimum wage. Touch screens are old technology now and not expensive anymore. I've had places in my city with them for years. The minimum wage in my state is only like 9 bucks an hour.

I have a laptop with a touch screen these were very expensive a number of years ago, but not now.

Read posts 70, 71, 72, 73. It'll do you some good to help you snap out of your conservative mindset.

You're missing the point.

So what if increasing the minimum wage costs jobs? It wages are held high, and the law is actually enforced, this would kill the incentive for businesses to lower wages by importing large numbers of foreign workers or lobbying to not enforce the law against illegal immigration. The entire reason for mass immigration is not because there is a ‘shortage’ of labor – an impossibility in a market-based economy – but to drive down wages. Remove the ability to lower wages, and you remove the incentive to do so. The point of a minimum wages law is not to raise wages higher than market forces or productivity allow, but to prevent employers from driving wages lower than market forces or productivity would otherwise allow.

So look for someone to blame, rather than for a solution.

Shall we keep everyone's wages low forever because corporations are greedy? You think suppressing wages is the solution? Companies will continue to use automation, as they have increasingly done for decades. Sorry people, as much as some hate progressives, it is called progress and it is going to continue no matter what the minimum wage is.

The solution is to plan ahead and prepare for a career or job that will not be eliminated when 'the Industrial Revolution' gets here.

Geez--sounds like some conservatives would prefer we still use washboards....

But what Democrats want to do by in large is: secure the border (not with a stupid wall, with high tech solutions, infrared, drones, etc..) and grant citizenship for those who are already here.

It makes absolutely no financial sense to deport everyone + build a wall. You think a wall will stop people from coming if they really wanted to?

BUT before you even worry about this illegals problem, worry about changing the GOP's mindset first. This whole "socialism" nonsense. Because until that happens, good luck with getting anything through unless the Democrats has a super majority.
Ok in the first paragraph you're talking about welfare for legals. This still doesn't answer the illegals question.

What's the point of letting in millions of uneducated illegals if there isn't enough jobs for them? All that does is hurt working class Americans including blacks and legal hispanics.

Just admit it you and many others (mostly people on the left) can't answer it because you're backed into a corner.

You can't have it both ways. Either automation is killing jobs and there's less jobs for low skilled workers or someone is lying or being a hypocrite and flip flopping when it suits their needs.

First, all illegals are not uneducated. Some are very highly educated and more productive than American citizens. The same as me saying all Trump voters are white and uneducated + too lazy to get a college education. Why should I help give part of my paycheck for their laziness?

There aren't enough jobs currently. Who said we can't change that? Given my previous post, we can easily change that. I'm not sure why you think the left is "backed into a corner", there's reasonable solutions that exists. The political will to implement will be a different story. See if you can get enough support for "socialist" programs. You'd be shot as soon as you say the word "socialist" in this country, however in Europe, socialist is mainstream.

The reality of the situation and despite what Trump says these low to medium skill jobs are going to be made obsolete by automation and technology. Businesses aren't social welfare organizations.Their goals are to maximize profits for their shareholders by whatever means available.

What this country should really focus on is more emphasis on training people for new job skills that make them more marketable in our rapidly changing work environment. I suppose that a century ago the folks that made horse drawn wagons and buggy whips had to make the same transition.

Why is that the role of the "country" i.e. government? People should be responsible for their own survival.
