Inclusion is always better than exclusion. If some kid who is feeling like he or she is the only person in the world having these feelings can feel better, it's fine with me.

Grown up people already are aware that gay people exist, I'd assume, so big deal. And children who aren't gay either won't notice or won't care that there's a gay character. Kids are a lot more accepting of others until they learn differently.

And it's normal for gay people to kiss too. The actor playing Gaston in this film is an openly gay man in real life. Yet here he is put in this ultra womanizing role. I bet he still doesn't think a thing odd of it. Actors are supposed to portray all types of real people.

Children aren't really aware of their sexuality until they are old enough where they see gay people on television regularly.

Some 6-year-old is not getting confused about the older boy on the bus he finds so alluring, because he isn't even thinking in those terms. So, having a gay cartoon character won't even compute.

Pandering.

I saw a part of Toy Story and the part I saw wasn't to my personal liking, i.e., Barbie saying to Ken, "Nice AS@-cot". So crude. Come on! Alas, the kiddies love them.

IMHO animated Disney/Pixar productions are like stand up comedians of yore... Everything is a 'one-liner'. So overdone.

I do love the Despicable Me animations, however..., particularly the Minions and their blended (French, Spanish, English, etc.) language.
I don't disagree with you, but that is objectifying NOT sexualizing.

My husband and I will be sitting out of this one.

You do realize Disney has been "pro gay", "inclusion" or whatever for ages.

Disney World hosts a "gay dads" event, and has been doing so for years now.

And yet, they decide to make the first disney gay character on the screen to be a fat idiot comic relief character that has a crush on the bad guy of the story. This is demonizing gay people in disguise.

Hey look, we decided to put a gay character on the screen for the first time. Never mind that we'll give him all the worst stereotypes and ridiculous traits we can think of.

Let's look at it from another angle. It will be the fat idiot comic relief character supporting the bad guy of the story VS 2 poor straight people who are persecuted because they are straight.

Disney really needs to try harder to disguise their demonizing of gay people here.

We knew my little niece was not going to be straight from around age 4. She told me that when she grew up, she was going to marry a lady. And I told her that was awesome.
I knew I was going to marry Little Joe Cartwright or Mark Spitz when I was only 4 years old. Okay, so that didn't happen, but I definitely knew I liked boys. I think my poor grandma used to worry about how fixated I was on Mark Spitz and his Speedo.

I disagree about the not being aware of their sexuality until they are old enough to see gay people on television. I was making my Barbie and Ken hump all the time when I was 4.
Maybe some kids are totally unaware of their sexuality, but I guarantee that there a lot who are very aware. Seeing a character who is like them might really help in sorting things out... and I can't see where that's a bad thing.

"Beauty and the Beast Has Disney’s First Openly Gay Character"

This is for the adults, kids aren't going to notice. After all, kids have never questioned why a cow, Clarabelle, dates a dog, Goofy. It all goes over their heads.

Sorry, but I have to question your family environment. Something seems quite off.

Just the idea that you think you know your niece's sexuality at four says a lot.
