In Norway.
But not in Russia. Russians don't buy all that politically-correct stuff.
Well, then the Russians should stay far away from Swedish territory. Stop pretending to be a superpower. Those days are long gone.

That is because Russia is an patriarchal-authoritarian regime. It sucks to be a woman there.

I wonder how much they're going to raise taxes, or what services they're going to cut (Ha! right!) to pay for it. They're only at about a 60% tax rate now, the people still have plenty of money government can take.

A "non-corrupt" country.

60%? That is what all Swedes pay? Is not the maxium tax rate in the US over 50%?

39.6% is the highest tax bracket in the USA.

Well if it's not a "superpower," then what makes you so nervous?

It sucks to be a man in Norway - I guess there is always a trade-off)))

Really interesting. Is it worth it forcing people to do so, especially women?
In general, most Western European and Scandinavian nations (the UK is the only exception I can recall off the top of my head) allow women to serve in direct combat roles (infantry, armor/cavalry, artillery, etc) so conscription of women makes sense.

Iran and North Korea are not superpowers either, but you do not want them as your neighbours.

Does not 25% of all Russian men die before they hit 55 due to alcoholism?

And what about the suicide rate?

Russia: 35.1 per 100,000 (2012)
US: 19.4 per 100,000 (2012)
Norway: 13.0 per 100,000 (2012)

And the low income...

Average monthly disposable salary > After tax: Countries Compared

Norway: $4,215.43
US: $3,258.85
Russia: $686.16

Seems pretty gloomy to me.

It's what most Swedes pay, they hit the max MUCH lower than taxpayers in the US do, and everyone pays there - they don't have a "48%". The bottom tax rate is 29%, at $39,000 if income they're at 50%. They also have a 25% sales tax.

For income tax the US maxes at 39%.

They're going to have to come up with the money to fund universal conscription from somewhere.
