Diplomatic solution? My guess is you were born after Bill Clinton was in office, correct? The reason NK has nuclear weapons is because "diplomat" Bill Clinton ushered them right to the gate and let them in. He was gullible enough to believe that food relief and inspections would be enough to keep them at bay. 20 years later, here we are talking about military action because "diplomacy" quite obviously did NOT work.
Yes indeed. NK made fools out of Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter who represented the Clinton Administration. They did it again with Bill Richardson and NK. and so on and so on.
This type of situation doesn't need military leaders, it needs accomplished diplomats. You squeeze NK like a nut in a nutcracker until it breaks through employing China and other regional powers to put on some pressure.
What the military and intelligence communities should be doing is assessing the threat and preparing for what happens *after* diplomacy doesn't work.

China is no more responsible for North Korea's actions, than the US is responsible for Britain's. China can agree to military action via the UN Security Council, so whatever defense treaties exist between China and North Korea are irrelevant.
