How can it not bother Republicans that Steven Bannon is a self-described Leninist who hopes to "destroy the state"?

“Lenin wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down."

Steve Bannon, Trump

Why would it? They apparently believe Lenin's statement that 'A lie told often enough becomes truth'.

Congrats on being the 5th person to start a thread on this.

Nice unfounded claim you got there.

I honestly don't think he is a Leninist. Lenin was a communist. Bannon is a libertarian IMO. They IMO are somewhat opposite of communist. Instead of giving the state all the control, they give businesses (free market) all the control. Both the state and free markets are flawed.

We have seen how communism is a failure in many countries around the world. This is because a nation cannot adequately function IMO without a healthy free market. The same can be said about a nation in regards to government. It cannot function without a healthy government, there needs to be a balance between the two with both checking each other and working together.

Today, too many people want a stateless society. They favor capitalism over government. They ignore history and the nature of humanity - in that in our own country various regulations that Trump and friends seek to dismantle were created in part based on the irresponsibility and damage than the free markets knowingly caused to occur in nations. This occurred because capitalism is about profits over everything else. Not people. Government, in a communist state is too much focused on people and not markets. We need a balance IMO and we have a good system in place now.

As a moderate, it does bother me and it is odd that so many people ignore history when it comes to free market capitalism. I've noticed on this very forum and in my personal life with libertarians I have as friends and family that they are not interested in how their ideas have played out in the past. They do not research. They have no plans (sounds familiar in regards to Trump and Bannon huh!). They just want to make money/profits.

Lenin was about equalization of society and getting rid of artistocratic hierarchies. He wanted to get rid of the aristocrats and capitalism. The aristocrats placed a ruling class over the masses and he felt the masses should control the country and all people should have the same things. That is not the same as a "stateless" society. The fact that Bannon (if true) said such a quote, shows that he, too, like many libertarian leaning persons is not a student of history and doesn't understand what a "stateless" society is.

That's exactly right! Not to mention that most Republicans have never heard of Lenin before.

Uh, yeah. Those of us who are genuine Republicans have always had concerns about Trump. I have concerns about his infrastructure spending. I have concerns about trade protectionism. I have concerns that his health care bill might be more Democrat than the one the Dems came up with, which was, after all, based on a plan by Newt Gingrich and a template by Mitt Romeny.

Trump has always been an ad hoc kind of of guy in his ideas, and the thing that amazes me is that you are holding this up as if it is something new. Did you not understand this before? Do you not get that Trump has been at loggerheads with he entire Republican establishment? Did you miss his conflicts with the Bushs, Paul Ryan, John McCain, Rand Paul, John Kasich, and, well everyone else? Did you not read a single one of the treatises on how he is an entirely different kind of Republican, labelled "populist" for convenience? Did you miss that he flipped a hand full of states that haven't voted Republican since the eighties?

Never heard it when he said that the Republican party does not necessarily have to be a conservative party?

You missed all of that?

I will break this down for you. Both politcal parties are traditionally coalition parties, with leftist Republicans an conservative Democrats. We have gotten SHARPLY away from that in my lifetime, but the side that wins is still always the side that can keep the biggest tent. That is why Bill Clinton went to "triangualtion," and succeeded, and the abandonment of that concept is why Hillary Clinton and the Dems are failing so miserably now.

Conversely the Republican party is all too happy to have increased access to the white working class vote, even if they do hope to lead Trump from down ballot.

And there it is.

Steve Bannon, Trump
It's never been proven that he said that, Snopes even said so.

For those not knowing what Leninism is =
Quote:
Leninism is the political theory for the democratic organisation of a revolutionary vanguard party and the achievement of a dictatorship of the proletariat, as political prelude to the establishment of socialism
.
This is the direction Bannon wants to take the country. and as some one who is currently serving as assistant to the President and White House chief strategist in the Trump administration he definitely has some input on the Presidents decisions. But hey not to worry Trump is making America great again, isnt he?
