There are hotels in NYC under $100/night + if the city wanted to be more efficient no shortage of landlords that would salivate over the idea of turning some of their units into shelters for far less.
Or you know, the alternative to $600 stays in times square is letting people freeze to death.
You really, really think they want to spend that kind of money if they don't have to?
Good investment. The alternative is the right wing third world alternative.
Homelessness should be seen as totally unacceptable in America. Everyone should get the mental health services that they need and people should be given a hand up to get back on their feet and get help to get a job. In the end, we would be better off as a society with less crime and more taxpaying citizens.
I agree with you, but don't you think it could be done cheaper? Instead of housing them in these expensive hotels what about building several 1 - bedroom units that are on a sliding scale/ based on income. $400,000 per day is unreasonable and there definitely could be alternatives to house these people in a more affordable way.
Why would the government care how much of your money they spent?
True enough. I just don't understand the outrage about potentially saving peoples lives when the government blows through trillions on 4 ply toilet paper and no one bats an eye.
(for those of you with empty heads, I'm aware trillions are not spent on toilet paper.)
(.......or is there?)
