Paulson's taxes on the $600 million dollars was deferred, and he will have to pay taxes.
"By accepting the Treasury post, Paulson is poised to take advantage of a tax loophole that allows government officials to defer capital gains taxes on assets they have to sell to avoid a conflict of interest, as long as the proceeds are reinvested in government securities or a broad array of mutual funds approved by the government within 60 days.
Technically, the tax kicks in once these replacement assets are sold, using the purchase price of the original assets as the cost basis, says Tom Ochsenschlager of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. But why sell when you can avoid the tax altogether?"
Again, he was forced to sell. If he holds on to his asset until now, he would have $1200 millions. So by taking the office, he lost over $600 million, a great sacrifice.
Personally, I think everybody should keep their earnings and pay $0 income tax.

I'm not in favor of that bailout in Wallstreet without consequences but fact of the matter is, those people on Wallstreet pay a lot of taxes and therefore the government has a vested interest in keeping them healthy.

During the Civil War, there were many who wanted to abolish slavery, but what they actually wanted was to remove blacks from the country entirely. The problem with deporting blacks to Africa, was that it was just too expensive and impractical. It was too far, and the blacks reproduced in America faster than they could be shipped back.
Lincoln made an arrangement with Haiti, to export there since it was a lot closer. But it was just too impractical and failed. He then tried to make an arrangement with the British government, to bring the slaves to Latin-America(mainly Central America), but the British refused.
Ultimately, blacks stayed in America for only two reasons.
1) Because no one else wanted them.
2) Because the southern economy needed the labor to work the land...So as you know, the slaves became sharecroppers, and not much changed.
As for segregation. We need to understand why whites in the south had been opposed to abolition. And to illustrate, we can use the words of Frederick Douglass himself back in 1863...
"It is said, what will you do with them? They can't take care of themselves; They would all come to the North; They would not work; They would become a burden upon the State, and a blot upon society; They'd cut their masters' throats; They would cheapen labor, and crowd out the poor white laborer from employment; Their former masters would not employ them, and they would necessarily become vagrants, paupers and criminals, overrunning all our alms houses, jails and prisons. The laboring classes among the whites would come in bitter conflict with them in all the avenues of labor, and regarding them as occupying places and filling positions which should be occupied and filled by white men; A fierce war of races would be the inevitable consequence."
Doesn't that sound familiar? And honestly, very little has changed, and the same basic ideas still sticks with us today when it comes to other immigrants. And yet still, it isn't that whites want to be superior over Hispanics and other immigrants. They simply do not want them here.
And to make another point even more clear. There is this persistent notion that the Southerners were racist, and that is why they wanted slavery. But that the North weren't racists, and that is why they didn't want slavery. The truth of the matter is almost entirely the opposite. It was the North that was the most racist of all.
"In that part of the Union where the Negroes are no longer slaves, have they come closer to the whites? Everyone who has lived in the United States will have noticed just the opposite. Race prejudice seems stronger in those states that have abolished slavery than in those where it still exists, and nowhere is it more intolerant than in those states where slavery was never known."
Moreover, one of the persistent assumptions about the KKK is that they existed to keep the black-man down(presumably to hold them in a state of slavery). If you actually look at the KKK more-objectively. You'll realize again, they are nothing more than White-Nationalists. The point of things like cross-burnings, wasn't to keep blacks in subjection, it was to run them out of town.
The KKK imagines itself the defenders of the European Protestant Christian Culture. They are cultural crusaders. Who believe blacks fall outside the European Protestant Christian Cultural tradition. And through most of its history, much of its opposition was not even towards blacks, but towards Catholics and Jews.
As to your complaints of Conservatives being pawns of big-business. I completely agree. The Republican Party pretends to care about conservative cultural issues(such as opposition to immigration, abortion, same-sex marriage, etc), to get votes. But the truth is, the Republican establishment doesn't care about any of those things. It exploits the evangelical and far-right voters, who are skeptical of atheistic socialism and the welfare state(and its cultural effects/drugs/crime/divorce/etc), but then turns its backs on them, and does nothing except lower taxes.
The question is, how do we fix it?
Your argument seems to be that if Conservatives would basically give up on the culture war, then the conservatives and liberals could unite against the big-money who exploits us all. Your argument is that people like Steve King, rambling about wanting to defend Western Civilization, is doing us all a disservice, by diverting our attention from the more-important economic issues.
I'm not going to say that you're wrong, but I will say, it is never going to happen. And if you turned the argument around on yourself, and made the case that liberals themselves should give up on the Culture War, to allow the focus to again be on the economic interests of this country, then more could be done.
But again, that isn't going to happen.
Basically, it is the cultural issues on both sides which are being exploited by big-business, to keep the people fighting with each other, so they can run off with the money. My goal has long been to find a realistic solution to the disagreements over culture. Because only once you take away the culture war, can there be an economic war.
My objection to liberals, is that they continue to stoke the cultural fire, with their foolish advocacy of open-borders.
Not only is it having the opposite effect here. But open-borders are crushing the Democratic-Socialist states of Europe as well. Your idealism is hurting your cause.

We agree on many of the points you have expressed, what I find quite troubling about the whole of such white nationalist ideology, is; its' INSANE. They all came here from some other place, most of them from various governance styled systems, the bulk being Monarchical or Totalitarian and Dictatorships; the mass were poor, uneducated and desperate. The wealthy came by means and function mostly as it related to money, they wanted to create and install themselves with some fiction of Royalty pretensions. Most have no idea that Royalty was not so much about money for the reason they thought, but the establishment of civil systems. and wealth was a tool to stabilize and expand such civil system under the form of governance they instituted. they only saw and pursued Greed, driven by Avarice minds and hearts.
Ignorance is was and still remains so profound in the mass of the uneducated who arrived in this land. as well as a form of ignorance in the minds and hearts of the wealthy - and both and all came, Many chasing greed from the gate.
They brought inhumanity to a high degree in their turn on the Indians who gave them such assistance and allowed their presence to establish itself. The nature of Vile was systemic in the lower class of which they came from. Knowing they could never rise above the status they were born. Such ones who lived under such constraints came here and become themselves oppressors, abusers, users and in a broad sense, Invaders with a dishonest motive and a unethical mentality, where violence and greed drove them like savages in the ways they coveted land that was not theirs, and pursued to use in form and manner of abuse of the good will and the aim of cooperative interaction with the native Indians of this land.

As an Avarice heart knows nothing other.

One must Know, to understand what is "Avarice"; it is not just money and material things, it is about anything and everything. Not even Love is safe in such ones. It leads one to want to dominate even the mate one chooses and the gender of woman, as if it must control over everything. The history of abuse of woman has been through the span of the white ethnic society for generational expanse.
We can't point out all matter in individual clarity, because there is not enough time, and certainly the variables are beyond comprehension to depict in explicit summary of each thing, or category, therefore, the better suited summary is the usage of the word "Avarice Filled Heart". There is no point of satisfaction nor is there a level where peace is at peace. The want for more, continues...
As to black people, America was built by the labor of black people, and that too the white man wants to stake claim, when his investment of self in such labor is the most lacking element in the building of America.
Any group or person or ethnic group can do much, with the money generated from labor. Be it forced labor or bought labor. Therefore, the white man takes an unfair and basically undue credit for the success of America. The concept of blacks not wanting to work. is nothing but a play on words and a push of his own psychological ploy. No man works without reward, the premise of labor is one reap what they sow. The white man, wants to invest not his own labor for what he wants to sow. and then abuse those whom labor he has abusively extracted, by force, threat, violence, vile, rape, murder and aims and acts of promoting actives and plans and investing in plots of dehumanization of others.
Look about the world, why is man so incapable of learning, that the human being was not made to be abused in such ways. No Land, that the white man has gone to enact such cycles of this madness has endured, Not in Africa, Not in India, Not in China or any of the places that such acts have been engaged and pursued. Over time, his plot and plan will fold over on him and consume him as well as diminish him.
Modern day, tells much, if one looks at Vietnam and then Look at Iraq and the Middle East in general, the white man, fails to understand that his bombs, bullets, subjugation and attempts at dominance and the aims of forced submission meets the same resolve, he is defeated in such aims.

White man again went to China, with aims to use the people and pay them below slave wage for their labor, and thought himself all knowing and all powerful, and the result is now the Chinese has his most coveted money, they now have the technology, they now have the industry, and what has white man done to America after all these decades and all the wealth amassed, except become a debtor nation, beholding to the same nations it tried to usurp with some idea of being better than, and trying to make unfair usage of others.
As I said, when white man can learn to live with others, then and only then will things find the levels of peace the world talks about, and the same is true of America as a nation. White man as an ethnicity has a problem with the civility of humane respect for the multi-ethnic people of the world.
He wonders why he is associated with the concept of evil, but if one looks at the factors, it is by the seven deadly sins, that he promotes himself. He seeks to pretend to pursue other means and make claims that he is for the Seven Virtues, but he has continually used those as a ruse and a lure, and resorted back to the same seven deadly sins that drove him in the beginning of his Avarice Driven Aspirations.
He speaks of good will, but results to seek to gain a position where others are beholding to him and thus become submissive. It's like some form of infectious madness.
Those among his ethnicity who try and think otherwise or live otherwise, as in being harmonious with other ethnic groups, he will persecute and vilify and engage in assault of any and every type against them.
History tells many stories of many things, and we can get lost in the fantasy, fiction, and the acts of such intertwines and when the end result of such presents itself, it resolves to present the presence of an Avarice Driven Motivation. - In America and Around the world, this has become an infectious madness that has affected the many ethnic groups around the world. The confounded mess that exist are many, and over many centuries the nature of mankind is vexed by these elements.
This mentality of manner and demeanor has presented itself in nearly every nations ethnic group upon the planet. the covertness of Resources, to the collusive habit of business greed to dominate and hoard resources with any act and effort engaged to do so. The oddity in the matter is every nation has its natural resources, as does in this country, every region has its natural resources and under a system of fair inter-play be it Inter-Continental Trade or Global Trade would be functional for all, Except, man's pursuits to dominate and control such has become and explosive madness, not only in any single land, but across the globe.
It would likely take Mass Devastation before man re-adjust his sense and concept of value, and that is not a guarantee, because devastation may produce an increase in covetousness and thus drive man into even more acts of inhumane conducts in pursuits. The true insanity is, that no man shall leave upon his death with anything. And within his life, no amount of anything can save his soul from the evils such covetousness has driven him to consume his life in pursuit of. He has chosen to void out peace for the sake of Avarice.
The ideology of man is flawed, and far from the principles that is taught across the globe of God Premised living. Man's aims of control will continue to be the downfall in the human function of experience.
We've seen it played out in Science Fiction and many other Man made World Devastation's, from the depiction of man creating machines that ultimately destroy man, to the depictions of man Destroying all living things upon the earth.
No matter what man stores up, he can only consume so much in a day, and even with that; his greed and avarice has infected him with every element of the seven deadly sins, until he has diseased himself, from the level of obesity to every kind of toxicity that deforms his genetic fiber, to be infected by disease he cannot fathom nor cure. His sense of ideals is based on Vanity... and Driven by Avarice.
Now, when it comes to Race In America, it was ignorant from the start and it has remained in pursuit of forms of morphing that ignorance from one level to the next and still it remains being ignorance. Because he is resistant against learning how not to be so. Vanity and Avarice has blinded him, until he is like a man standing in the garden of Eden, surrounded by all that is needed to sustain and maintain him, and his greed to hoard, has made him feel deprived and devoid to the point he cannot see. He will chop down the trees of many fruits, and then wonder why he has become to be in a fruitless place.
History shows us the conclusiveness of mans Avarice and the Evils it promotes.
In our systems, there is no "Trickle Down", there is simply Hoarding and Avarice, Driven by Greed through any tactical devise of manipulative madness. In reference to America, the inharmonious nature of mentality and the disregard for ethnic collaboration for unity, it has become a cycle of madness driven by every form of Avarice driven craziness, that builds up, and destroy, and seek to dominate and then destroys, and seeks to covet and thus destroys, and the cycles continues no matter what level of ingenuity that is pursued and gained, it finds means to being for the sake of Avarice, that it ultimately destroys.
Man now sees to escape his own madness for New Planets, but he has not resolved in his soul, the concept of what is Peace and how it is best achieved and maintained. He has not learned in all these centuries that God made no man, lesser than another as being within and of the human existence.
Look at Poor whites in America, they are the exact replication of what is generated when denial and deprivation and opposition is engaged to deny. It is the same as with the concept of what and how white man has done to Blacks, by the same aims of denial and deprivation and opposition is engaged to deny.

The vile did not cease, it moved on to create the madness of segregation, as if one sectors wanted to hoard the gains for themselves and deny the same unto those whom built the system and generated the productions that created the revenues. That was not enough, then man became obsessive within himself, to push and create Monopolies to promote unfair business, and attack competetitive industry, which was the basis that supported any concept of there being any fairness within the system of capitalism. That still was not enough madness, he then set up the Stock Market, again an aim in design to make possible for the people to support the business that employ and support them. He became greeds and lose all concept of actualy production and sales, and began to focus on the "trading of fiction", that lost every concept of concern for what is actual production and sales. That was not enough, he began to fictionalize it, and create a Casino of game which included, better against meeting revenue, not based on production and sales, but based on the volume of fractionalized share that could be traded. This led to the domination of Industry pretending to Invest in Industry, only to find means to create collusive pyramids that amass to become monopolizing madness. All such things became more important than the core industry which was used on as a 'fixture of fiction", to support a run away gambling game of trading, until stock began to trade at xxx above any remote potential to achieve production and sales figures to match with the inflated stock selling madness. Then came over expansion, which was supported by Over stocking, and the madness just continued to morph and morph, and become a cycle of mergers and acquisitions, amassing massive debt, over valuation and then a run away trading system, that no longer has anything to do with the actual performance in true realism of a corporate functional performance. Companies are crashed, while the sales orders pile up and the filling of those order diminish, because it is incapable to meeting the fictional concept of sales needed to justify the fiction. So, health companies are made to appear unhealthy and are crashed, and forced into mass liquidation, not only of materials and goods, machinery, but in the wake, it leaves a devastated Industrial sector that abandons it processes and results to be mass blight in the industrial centers, and today, we see the very same thing that has happen to industry, happening to commercial establishments.
We've seen wealth amassed in the hands of a few, who now gamble among themselves at the risk and perils that it invokes upon the mass population. Again, VANITY AND AVARICE, lost in the cycle of Greed's mechanisms.
Nothing is given value except the illusions of vanity popularity, fictions about the granduer of wealth, and a madness where Avarice drives the continual demise of every system, function and even institution of Department and Divisions of Governance. When Governance is made to be less than a Governing Body and Regulatory Management is Stripped Away, then we have a unsafe society, that will resemble every aspect of Third World systems where avarice and greed grandstand into every corrupt practice and habit known to man. Then comes the downfall of Nations.
It's been repeated through history time after time, and will continue as long as the heart of man is driven by avarice and his actions by greed mechanisms.
Nothing is safe, Educational system stripped and ripped, because the wealthy don't want to mix with the poor and they want not to pay for the exclusions they desire, they want only their contribution via a system of tax, to only support themselves, they have no concern nor regard for the entirety of the same system, that afforded them the infrastructures of which paved the way for them to gain wealth. Their Ignorance demonstrates them as being inferior in every matter that counts in the grand function of the human life. Their Avarice has led them to be fully consumed and managed, driven and led by the Vanity of themselves.
Technology deludes him to think he is beyond the need of other human beings and even beyond the need of a system of Governance's, he wants to be his own private dictator. He seals his own fate-filled self destruction of the society he sprang within and from, and he rushes ahead to create massive destruction to the very land he lives upon.
Man is NOT YET, intelligent enough to live in a True Democracy, and there is No Man, Honest enough to be a Dictator for the sake of Civil Unity and Civilized harmony and Social and Economic Equality. Man is too corrupt and easily tempted, even to sustain a Body of Man as in Congressional Form, to be of the honesty necessary to make decisions and stand behind policy to support Social, Civic and Economic Equality.

When I was getting my mortgage loans, the bank manager came over and congratulated me and said, "Don't pay off your loan too fast. You want to keep the mortgage as long as possible so that you can get the benefit of tax deduction on the interest."

Looking back, I should have strike a deal with her so that she gives me $100 and I'll refund her $70, but I was too shocked at the time. I was not sure whether she was trying to trick me or genuinely believed what she said. Now, I think she actually believed it.
