Some conspiracy theory (which historically had a few fringe adherents across the political spectrum) that there is a secret state operating within the US. It has recently gained traction amongst many of those on the right as a way to explain the issues that the Trump administration is facing and/or America in general is facing. I think that even a few "mainstream" right-wing commentators such as Sean Hannity has mentioned it (Hannity is as mercurial, opportunistic, and conniving as the Donald).
The Deep State belief allows strident Trump supporters that ascribe to it to rationalize his flaws, short-comings, and ineptitude and will even allow them to consider him a martyr of sorts should he "fail".

Nah, Americans of today are far too soft and self centered to ever muster the resolve, strength, toughness and integrity required to physically battle for their beliefs. They could never coalesce to cause a civil war. They'd be too worried about being politically incorrect, or of daughter Kendall missing soccer practice. Mom might run out of Zoloft. Dad might not finish his fantasy league season. Austin might lose his video games.

I know you call yourself a philosopher but there is a pretty significant difference between being cryptic as a means of getting others to think and being cryptic to hide the fact that you don't have a point. And I can quite easily tell the difference.
