"Gender equality benefits all of us," Iceland's Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson said on International Women's Day, as his government works on a law to require companies to show they pay men and women the same salary for the same work.
The law, which is believed to be the first of its kind at the national level, would apply to all companies with more than 25 employees, Benediktsson said. Companies would need to undergo certification every three years to ensure that their pay policies follow the rules.
Isn't Icelands main industry fishing, and to be honest you don't see many women working on fishing trawlers or working in the Aluminium smelting industry which is another major Icelandic industry.
The difference with this is that paychecks will have to be submitted and long drawn out investigations will be mandated. There will be massive retraining and there will be guidelines to follow so that managers will be able to recognize quality and grade employees. This information will be submitted as well.
This is when the lawsuits commence costing corporations billions.
We did this 50 years ago. Yes there are a few cracks, like with Hollywood and political employee's but we did this 50 years ago.
Apparently a lot of women don't realize the main reason the women were protesting yesterday. There is still a huge wage gap between women and men, with women earning around 79 cents to every dollar men make.
