The roots come from the industrial revolution, and made worse by the industrialists that basically did all they can to make employees legal slaves. In other countries, like Imperial Russia, it was even worse.

What we see is the reaction, and rightfully so.
Meh... deflection and a bending of the truth.
Communist China is where the US industrialists sent their work to pay slave wages right up to now. China is in worse economic shape than since Nixon opened trade up.
How's the USSR doing these day? Progressive is simply a cute word for failed ideology.
I never had an issue with progressivism except for their weird science like eugenics. Today they harbor some strange science except without the racism.
I don't know. I think most progressives are motivated by a genuine desire to help other people. The problem is that the progressive solution, more and more power centralized in the hands of a central government, has been proven over time to be an utter failure.
Pragmatic people like me recognize that the idea of eradicating poverty, ensuring everyone has health care, etc. is a pipe dream. The cost to individual liberty and freedom isn't worth the try.

Bentbow is correct.
What is communist about China? It is just like neo liberal paradise of minimal protection, regulations, and social provisions. Most former Soviet countries reinvented themselves along oligarchical lines.

Please, you have very few liberties outside of increasingly junky consumption. Your life is tightly regulated, legislated while self censorship rules what is not regulated yet, yup, poverty is widespread, and health care subpar or non existent for majority. In many ways totalitarian regimes were less controlling, you just keep your mouth shut on politics, in USA self censorship is comprehensive, including personality and attitude adjustments, and most people, frankly, are too dumb and ignorant to talk politics anyway. The worst slavery is when slaves think they are the freest bunch.

If you have a thought that is rational, let me know.
