She loves Judy Blume books like I did about Fudge and Peter. There are a lot of great female children's authors that boys and girls both enjoy reading other than JK Rowling. It is odd to me that many of the posters in this thread don't seem to realize that women write a lot of popular books that boys also enjoy. Same as male writers.

Excellent point! It wasn't that long ago that "we" were told boys wouldn't read books or watch movies with a girl as the main character, but that is changing. My boys enjoyed all of the books you mentioned when they were younger, and as they got older loved Lois Lowry, Susan Cooper, Madeline L'Engle, Susanne Collins, Katherine Applegate, Sara Pennypacker, Holly Black... not to mention the latest round of Disney Princess movies (Brave, Moana) that appeal to both genders.
