Bannon is said to be exhausted and stretched. A source close to Bannon says that he may have “joked about being fired,” but disagreed that Bannon is tired: “I don't think he even thinks in those terms. He is used to an intense schedule.” His focus, the source says, “is working for the president to deliver on the promises to the American people for the first 100 days and then beyond on the overall agenda of Making America Great Again.” Bannon returns Rebekah’s phone calls when he can. But, according to someone who knows both well, “relations are strained.” Another person who works with both of them says, “I think Bannon, once he finally built a relationship with Trump, didn't need Rebekah as much … and he doesn't care about that. He only cares about the country.” The source close to Bannon says that Rebekah and the chief strategist remain “close friends and allies."
I read that article the other day, and I don't recall Bannon being the main point. It is really about Robert Mercer, and his numerous relations -- with Brexit, UKIP, Heritage, Brietbart, Cambridge Analytica, Bannon, the Trump campaign, etc.
Bannon is a bitter guy with a chip on his shoulder. Keep hearing the same maudlin story of his poor dad who got screwed in the 2008 recession (like most of the country), so Bannon is on a power destruction trip. He's probably even more bitter since his guy Wilders just lost in the Netherlands.

The claim that anyone is pulling Trump's strings is dubious at best. A man with an ego like that of Donald Trump doesn't let anyone tell him what to do.
Best evidence: Even Steve Bannon would have started severely limiting and editing Trump's Twitter feed.
