Yup. Something's rotten in Denmark here. Trump and his cronies have gone out of their way to weaken Western Europe and strengthen Russian influence. Merkel was treated quite rudely by Trump last week and previously criticized for her leadership qualities. The sense is of course that the new administration just wants out of NATO.
State Department influence around the world and especially in Europe is being diminished with steep budget cuts and some of it's duties are being channeled to the White House and directly into the hands of Trump, Bannon and Kushner. Kremlin election hacking and Generals with lucrative business deals. If you see smoke expect to find fire.
The hypocrisy of the left is astounding. These are the same people who were praising Obama for wanting to "talk" to Iran and for reestablishing ties with Cuba.
Neither of whom are threatening/enacting piecemeal invasion of Europe.
Yeah poor McCain and Graham must hate seeing their plans for another Cold War and arms race get sidelined.
Uh, that would be Trump who is going for Cold War II....
"The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes," Trump posted to Twitter on December 22, 2016.
Hopefully, most of our allies will be willing to give us another chance after this disaster comes to its inevitable conclusion.
I think our democracy could come out of this stronger, and more focused.
For one thing, we got to get our elections shaped up. Gerrymandering, hanging chads, Dibold voting machines, purging voter rolls, voter suppression, foreign influence...
Comey is right that the bedrock of our democracy is honest elections. We've got some work to do.
Still, I think our diplomats should be pleasant to our allies, as long as they'll have us.
Firm but respectful would be all that anyone should reasonably expect.
Sure am and hate it, but changes nothing I implied about MCain and Graham (who would probably like to see even bigger budgets).
I see. So - how many billions would constitute a new cold war?
