Sears made a fortune by going big with catalog sales. If they had only realized the internet was the modern catalog...

Innovation smiles on the forward thinking entrepreneur, which is why the little guy can become the next big fish.

It's a shame but what retailers have been around over a hundred years? And since I'm a Chicagoan it hits especially close to home since they are based here. RIP Sears. You had a hell of a run.

In 10 years, Sears, J.C. Penny and Macy's will be memories!

I don't know why Sears has been so unable to keep up, it's been a mystery to me. They practically invented mail order, so why....?

I only know that it's been 30 years since I was even tempted by anything in a Sears store. Kmart is a little better, the clothing they carry is surprisingly well-made for cheap stuff (certainly better than W*Mart), but the fact is that even when I was a well-dressed office lady, I did most of my shopping at consignment and thrift stores.

Sears and K Mart are a creepy place to shop in. If you go in you almost want to buy something out of pity, its so empty. But their merchandise isn't any better than Wal Mart or Target, at least clothing wise.
Amazon is destroying businesses more than Wal mart ever did but they get a pass, why? And Amazon is run by someone out of a James Bond movie, villain wise.

somewhat analogous story to current gameplan for the right....at one time Lampert was being touted as the next Buffet....all about short term gains with no real plan...pull all the cash out ASAP while being hailed as a genius for present day profits yet don't reinvest in infrastructure or keep competitive with rivals then wonder what happened?

I shop at Sears more often than just about any other store. Then again I do not shop that often. Still they have everything all in one convenient place.
Where else under one roof can you buy clothes, major appliances, quality tools, furniture, lawn equipment, tires, get your car repaired, jewelry, mattresses, prescription eye wear, etc., etc. ?

Needless to say I hope it survives, and the supposed guru that took it over and has run it into the ground out to be publicly flogged and humiliated.

Indeed, I do not get how people enjoy the misfortune of others to make themselves feel better. Unless Sears harmed that poster in some way, what is to celebrate

Plus Amazon is not without it's faults either.
