Well, given there was no warrant to do the surveillance and it reportedly came from surveillance of someone outside the U.S. it is ILLEGAL to disseminate said information about the U.S. citizen by name.
It is also highly suspect to surveil a political campaign by another political party as is suggested what has happened.

What's going to be interesting is if/when it comes out who ordered the surveillance AND who decided to disseminate it to everyone.
It's NOT Trump that's in trouble if this falls the way it's looking to fall, it's the opposing party that's going to take a big fall...
Hmmm..I seem to recall a lot of people saying that when the Wikileaks and the Podesta hacks came out that it did not matter that it was illegally obtained...that the info was what mattered.

So..using that same logic..does it really matter if highly damaging information is obtained and leaked?
Surely the info is the important thing, right?

Also, even if there was surveillance...it was incidental...and someone leaked the masked info.

Illegal..surely. but if the info is correct--we still can't unring the bell--we must deal with it.

If there's an ongoing investigation NOT involving Russia but that does include foreign surveillance why would Trump not already know about it? Why would Nunes go charging off to the White House?

Nunes tries to explain it as the sheer number of the "incidental" contact reports during the transition, saying though that the actual contacts were quite innocent. Well, so, again. Why would Trump not know the types of contacts his team was having? No communications between the ranks and intel chiefs and Trump?

Are we back to an essential level of mistrust between Trump and the IC that Nunes felt the need to warn Trump about? Why not wait until Friday when more input was available from the NSA who Nunes describes as cooperative?

Tunes referred to widespread dissemination of the reports but again managed not to be particularly clear. Among the intel community? 'Within the then-Obama Administration? Sure, I would think that leaks by the Obama Administration prior to the Inauguration would be inappropriate if done for political purposes. Some stuff WAS leaked in connection with Russia - with the "excuse" given that it was an attempt to prevent the Trump Administration from burying it.

But this isn't about Russia with no clue as to the investigative subject. Is Nunes alleging there were political leaks here? He does not say.

The only political use of the information actually seems to be by Nunes.

Two days after the House Intelligence Committee hearing. On the steps of the White House. Bad, bad optics.

What in the world is going on here?
The intelligence agencies broke the law over and over. Just Before Obama left office he made it possible that all intelligence agencies could share information making it more difficult to find the leakers. Obama is the rat. We know he did this for said reasons.

That the chairman of the HIC is determined to ferret out leakers of classified material, and bring them to justice. (The penalty can be up to ten years in prison, as emphatically stated by Congressman Gowdy.)

That the chairman of the HIC received classified material, illegally leaked by a person whom he did not report for this illegal activity.

That the chairman of the HIC ignored his duty to the committee, and passed the classified material on to two other individuals, one of whom may be a subject of his investigation.

That the chairman of the HIC discussed the classified material with the press prior to bringing it before the committee.

That the chairman of the HIC stated the classified material was evidence that WH Transition Team members were inadvertently surveilled while conversing with IC targets.

That the chairman of the HIC could determine the identities of some of the Team members, even though their names were masked.

That there was no evidence that President Obama ordered a wiretap of Trump Tower.

That President Trump is still a boldface, pants on fire, liar.

Note: One reason that Nunez may have been able to determine the identities of the Transition Team members is that he was a member of the Team.
Finally. Some sense. ^^^ Except that the matter itself still makes none. Trump spouting off with the Obama tweet storm I can get. This? That Nune's fellow Committee members were taken aback and immediately turned to Twitter and possible revenge disclosures shows how poisonous the atmosphere is becoming.

Nunes rattled off some claptrap nonsense that he thought the American people should be informed. But of WHAT?

Two reasons really why Trump would not already have known: (1) that the reports were fairly inconsequential and (2) this "new' investigation is such that intel chiefs did not think it appropriate to inform Trump. Why would that be? Investigative targets too close to him?

And Nunes just took leaked classified information and trotted off to tell?

Pretty clear we need an independent special prosecutor.

It gets tiring trying to explain to little Johnny that 2 + 2 are not five.

But the basic news is this - there could very well be some MORE stuff against Trump and his staff in those conversations. Although these conversation were not picked up as part of this investigation, Trump just happened to be the guy on the other end of the line!

So for those who need real news as opposed to fake news....

1. Lots more materials exists. This is likely to continue because of the way....well, people talk to each other.

2. This material may be damaging to Trump or his staff - it may fit in with the existing investigation - or, it may be mostly unrelated but STILL illegal.

3. It could be nothing. Trump could simply be telling the foreign agents how great he is or what kind of a condo special deal he will give them.

The most troubling part of this is that Nunes ran directly to the POTUS and showed it to him. The Congress is supposed to be one of the checks and balances on the executive branch - instead, we have the top guy in Intel blabbing....quickly...a sign it may be important stuff.

All of this ties in with my thinking that the Republicans will not do their job and impeach or otherwise take care of Trump NO MATTER WHAT. It's one thing for a rank and file congress critter to not jump on trump, quite another for the committees to start making sure justice is NOT done.

This could easily be the biggest story in the history of the USA Presidency. But - if the GOP Congress doesn't want to enforce laws (treason, etc.), then all it ends up becoming is proof that it is OVER for the USA.

more likely this new revelation shot holes in the dems denial of Trump being tapped. it's all starting to come out and will lead right back to obama. the stakes could not be higher and we will surely see more misinformation and lies flow from the lips of dems.
