I don't know any Indian Americans who support Trump. Empirically, Asian Americans were some of Hillary's biggest supporters with 70%+ support.

The majority of Indian American have alligned themselves with the Democratic Party, even though it's not beneficial to them in some areas (see #1). However, there are about 10 to 20 percent of Indian American who are often Christians (5% of india is Christian and under their right wing government, they are increasingly persecuted by the right wing hindu government of Modi) and affiliate with Republicans. Most DID NOT prefer Trump as their primary candidate, instead favoring Bush, Rubio, or Kasich. My family tends to be Republican, but more so in the vein of Reagan and such, so they HATED trump. I'm also still never trump, even though his economic policies are great for me. I just can't support an anti-capitalist like Trumpie. The other chunk of Indian Americans who supported Trumps were wealthier folks. Once again, the group is already wealthy but many with businesses and similar economic beliefs realized that this was a really profitable situation.

1. Indian americans are the wealthiest ethnic group in America, so they will benefit greatly from Trump. Even second and third generation Indian Americans are all doctors, engineers, or hedge fund guys. This is often a reason for white hostility towards indian-americans...people hate success after all (see jews for that one)

2. Indians do tend to be conservative on social issues.

3. Give that Indians have faced a lot of issues with Islam over the years in terms of terrorism, they recognize that a hard line policy is needed to deal with it.

That's because you don't leave the casinos.

Seriously the tech industry heartedly benefits from the strong efforts of the Trump administration so it makes sense that many Indians would heartily support President Trump after his strong election win!

Trump has a personal vendetta against Silicon Valley ever since Hillary won big in California. Why would Trump admin withhold funding from Caltrain for any other reason except they wanted to exact political revenge. This administration is anti-science, anti-trade, anti-immigration, anti-renewable energy, anti-education. The economic strategy of Trump is the antithesis of everything that makes Silicon Valley great; it's the difference between Obama admin which smartly encouraged innovation, and the Trump admin who remains dead set on a race to the bottom to attract jobs from places such as Vietnam and Bangladesh.

America is lucky to have a congressman like Ro Khanna out of Santa Clara. He travels to rural Kentucky to organize job training programs so people in Appalachia can have tech skills, these events are put on by tech companies from California as well as Kentucky. His actions are the polar opposite of the Trump admin who wants Soviet style prop up the failing coal industry as coal is becomes more expensive than natural gas.

Trump's attitudes about the tech industry are a little troubling. Plus, Bannon is on record saying that there were too many asian CEO's in the Bay Area. I'm hoping for the best, but am expecting that the crazies in the Trump admin (Spencer, Gorka, Bannon) will win.

But it's a matter of perception. I've also been a fan of Ro Khanna, though I'm in a nearby district. But no matter what Ro does, CA politicians, SV business persons, etc will always be perceived as coastal elites. And with that single perception, we'll end up losing. Truth doesn't matter, it's about perception, and as long as Americans perceive that coastal elites are ruining things or that H1B visas are stealing jobs, then it won't matter the reality is. Trump gets this....sans his constant lying. He knows that if you can convince people of an alternative truth, a great con can be pulled (all outlined in his art of the deal book)

I support him & I am of indian origin. We entered the country legally & had to wait in line for more than a decade to get our citizenship. It is not fair that illegals get an easy pass when we are the ones who followed all the rules.

And yet, you supported a candidate who is far to the right and is surrounded by Spencer, Gorka, and David Duke. These include people who want to end all LEGAL immigration to the US (around 15 to 20% of Repubs support this) to people who want to bake all jews. It's strange to go from your perspective to supporting a candidate who has hinted at wanting to end all immigration to the US.

Strange

Well the H1B visa program will surely be revamped by the Trump administration. Many many Indians here as well as those hoping to get to the USA are smart enough to know opposing Trump is putting the tech visa pipeline from India in further jeopardy.

Funnily enough, during the buildup to the pres election , I noticed considerable opposition from Indian workers in the tech industry based in Silicon Valley. Now, there is sort of a flip flop among these same individuals to support Trump. Very fast indeed this turnaround.
