Actually for most parts of the human history, we never had regulation on alcohol. What did we do before the regulation?
Get sick and die.

If you guys had even an ounce of self-awareness you'd realize how stupid you look by repeating this over and over again while the Republican party is falling apart in front of our eyes and the abomination in the White House is under FBI investigation.

But there is little danger of that.

Yeah! And if you Democrats had any idea how to govern you may have won.

Seems losing one's business and maybe their freedom, keeps self regulation a priority.

All the "what if" and "what could happen" laws, take so much liberty from individuals.
We may be free, but liberty is all but gone.
Wait. It wouldn't be the bar. It would be the manufacturer... How would the bartender know if they served tainted alcohol?

Its like suing the Ford dealer when you get rear ended in a pinto and it turned into a Bic Lighter... How were they responsible? Unless a stop sale/demonstration recall were enacted and they continued to do so...

The great irony of regulation is that it serves business, not individuals. It exists to give consumers a false sense of security. Basically, the government says its safe, so it must be safe.

The reality of a world without regulation, isn't people dropping dead in a bar from bad alcohol(because of the exact reasons you listed). And if people were actually afraid of dying from bad alcohol in a bar, they wouldn't go to bars.

Basically, if you actually had to worry about the things you buy killing you, who would buy them?

Our economy is built on "consumer-confidence". Government regulations exist to promote consumer-confidence, so that people will consume(IE for economic-growth).

Moreover, because of the costs of compliance, it always gives big-business an advantage over small-business. If it requires a license and an inspection for a kid to run a lemonade stand, no kid will run a lemonade stand.

But why would the government want children running a lemonade stand anyway? They are lowering prices, and not paying taxes. The government would much rather you get your lemonade from Wal-mart, or a convenience store.

You have no "liberty" if you're dead.

On balance, the amount of liberty we lose through regulation is made up for by our ability to freely invest without fear of being scammed, free to breath air without the fear of it poising your lungs, ect.

Look, there's no place on earth where everyone can sit around contributing nothing to society and live like a king.

Technically, they could both be held liable for negligence.

I remember a few years back there was an issue with salmonella coming from vegetables imported from Mexico.

CDC Update: 4 Deaths, 767 Salmonella Cases in 36 States Linked to Cucumbers | Food Safety News

The question is how much responsibility McDonalds has for making sure the vegetables it buys are from reputable producers. And what should the consequences be if they don't adequately attempt to ensure the safety of their product.

Also, the damage done to McDonalds is two-fold. They could not only be sued for negligence, but if someone died, also negligent homicide.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negligent_homicide

And, the damage to their reputation would likely cause them to go out-of-business, causing financial losses in the billions.

About 10,000 people murdere each year. Do we have regulations on how parents should raise their children?
