I think the single best thing that'd help would be to reduce the population by reducing the dole.
Reducing the dole won't stop the homeless problem or the addiction problem. It will just relocate the problem. This is a nationwide problem.

With Seattle in the news so much with the coddling of and giving sanctuary to illegal aliens plus these safe zones for heroine users to shoot up and never mind the crime that permeates from these unlawful practices Seattle is not on my list to ever visit.
Parts of Southern Mass and the Cape are filled with the same types. I worked public health there for a short while. So please, high horse and all...

drug addiction doesn't subscribe to a political ideology...moreso to a human one.

Thing is, there are those who want this to be about politics.

Seattle can stop competing for the nations homeless by cutting the dole. If Portland/SF/D.C./Boston can offer a better deal, let 'em.

Police are encountering vehicles that cannot be safely searched by cop nor cop dog due to the presence of many discarded needles. Ah well, at least these addicts are not littering by tossing them out onto the ground. But that is a problem too. One neighborhood has offered training to residents on how to properly deal with needles that are found on the ground.

The King County (cty in which Seattle lies) Board of Health has also opened 'safe injection sites' for addicts, in part to deal with the problem of needle litter. Last year the city finally cleared out a large homeless encampment under I-5 known as 'The Jungle.' Volunteers filled gallon jugs with thousands of used needles.

YBOL.
automakers take note.... eliminate ashtrays and begin to install needle disposal devices.

I live in the Atlanta area. We have far less dole to give out than Seattle. Homeless keep coming here anyway. Seattle isn't competing for homeless. Homeless people just go wherever they can. And how do you where said homeless are coming from?

This isn't a liberal problem, it's a side effect of how we treat drug abuse in this country. Drug abuse is seen as a criminal matter, when it really should be seen as a health matter.
