...to this after I posted it--and I went and re-read a post I made a few months ago.
You all know that the Executive branch is the least powerful of the three, right?
If the Democrats united with a relatively few moderate Republicans..Trump could find himself in for 3 years of a lame-duck Presidency.
After all..if there was a veto-proof alliance---it would be as if the President really had no power..yes...he'd still be commander in chief--but if Congress chose to take a hard line on the War Powers Act..Trump would have his wings clipped.
Every time he signed an Executive order..if Congress chose..they could simply pass a bill clarifying their legislative intent..and voiding the Executive order.
I know it's a long way from here to there... but it could happen.
Seems like the real power may not be with the divided majority, but with the united minority!
This will be interesting. By calling out the Freedom Caucus and various members of Congress, Trump has managed to anger a substantial group and diminish his ability to obtain enough votes to pass bills. Poor Trump. He doesn't have political skills and must think bullying will work like it did in the real estate world.

I think that ultimately the Freedom Caucus will side with Trump...in this scenario. But there is a lot of chips on the table, for the right Republican to take the lead and cross the aisle. If the Congress did get off its collective a** and accomplish something, it could catapult someone into the very forefront.
LOL! Go for it... a government shutdown worked wonders for Cruz!
There won't be a need to shut down the government. The GOP's inability to agree on anything will do that quite effectively with no help from the Democrats.
I would love to see the sane moderate Republicans finally get fed up with the lunatics in control of their party and walk away from them. You know the they have to be embarrassed by what their party has become. They actually hold an inordinate amount of power right now, if they would only choose to use it.

Then it would appear Moderate Republicans have the power and the Democrats and WaPo are having another wet dream.

It's like a two part thing..apart..no power..together..rule the Congress. The power is in working in tandem...getting stuff done that the fringes of both parties have blocked..real entitlement reform..without throwing the baby out with the bathwater. A budget that works...Real tax reform, so that those who make the most..pay the most..no loopholes. Repealing the Oil Depreciation Allowance.
Giving the States more say..in everything from Pot to Education to Health Care.
