I am all in favor of anyone who wants electricity from solar or wind to have it as long as they pay for it themselves and none of the cost of materials, installation or maintenance is subsidized. I don't care if you want your pie in the sky electricity to come from pixie dust and unicorn farts, just pay for it yourself and don't make everyone else or anyone else pay for it.

By the way OP... Thank you for the best laugh I've had in quite a while. This is too funny. Pathetically sad BUT too funny.

Not to worry -- the Average Joe/Jane can get in on this MegaWonder that will "change the world" - you can donate money to their GoFund page. You get prizes based on how much much money you give them!!

Solar Roadways
Solar panels that you can drive, park and walk on. They melt snow & cut greenhouse gases by 75% ?!!!

Solar Roadways is a modular system that will modernize our aging infrastructure with an intelligent system that can become the new Smart Grid.

Solar Roadways is a modular paving system of solar panels that can withstand the heaviest of trucks (250,000 pounds). These Solar Road Panels can be installed on roads, parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, bike paths, playgrounds... literally any surface under the sun. They help pay for themselves primarily through the generation of electricity, which can power homes and businesses connected via driveways and parking lots. A nationwide system could produce more clean renewable energy than a country uses as a whole . They have many other features as well, including: heating elements to stay snow/ice free, LEDs to make road lines and signage, and attached Cable Corridor to store and treat stormwater and provide a "home" for power and data cables. EVs will be able to charge with energy from the sun (instead of fossil fuels) from parking lots and driveways and after a roadway system is in place, mutual induction technology will allow for charging while driving.

Don't forget about this deal. Keep it in mind each time you hear the Leftists bloviate about "Smart Grid" and "Infrastructure Investment". THIS is the type of thing that mean.
That's hilarious (& of course infuriating).

EVERY TIME is hear a Leftist use the word "Investment", it's code for a 10 Billion Dollar (or higher) Boondoggle that accomplishes ZERO.

Kind of like when I "invest" in a 6 pack of beer so I can go p*ss it away on some tree.

To be fair at least $2.2 million came in private donations. The Federal government gave less then $1.5 million, if it's worth that I'm not sure. It's an interesting concept and it will be neat to see how this develops in the future. The company behind the development has not been successful, but I would like to see continued development for solar roads if someone else wants to give it a go.

Their first project back in 2009 when they installed panels for a sidewalk that didn't work should have been a clear indication that they shouldn't be the ones doing this development. DOT gave them $750K after that to continue development and that was a mistake imo.

The other aspect to these panels is that they are heated and can melt snow and ice, that is why they choose their location instead of somewhere like Arizona or Florida. If that actually worked, I don't know.

A couple of sources, one specific to El Paso, TX from El Paso Electric, the other overall U.S.

Also important to note the number of jobs created:

"Whatever else the Republican Party and the Trump White House thinks about the problem of Earth's changing climate system, the clean energy sector is now creating new jobs faster than almost any other sector in the American economy. That's an inescapable fact – one that is supported by GOP and Democratic voters alike."

Myself, I will complain about how Trump is costing taxpayers almost as much going to Mar-A-Lago -- $3.3 million per trip.

And I don't think his golfing will do much to warm up leftover pad thai.

What is not stated in that bold text is the clean energy sector, specifically the solar design and installation especially for rooftop solar, has just as many businesses going out of business as it has new start-ups because they can NEVER deliver what they claim for the price they claim, even with massive subsidies from the government.

Digging ditches with spoons instead of shovels also creates lots of jobs.

So now we know that building roads out of solar panels doesn't make sense. Back to building roof shingles.
