It has never occurred to the Democratic High Command that Bernie was what the majority wanted, not HER. He was popular, decent, selfless, not much baggage, and not tied to Wall Street.
Not many supported Bernie either. He only got support in a few states.
I am referring to the kind of candidacies they were. McCain didn't have near the baggage that Hillary did, but he was pushed as the "next in line" candidate after Bush and never generated much excitement.
Obama didn't have any trouble winning easily with the "deplorables" voting.
Nothing like effing people over to the point that they stop voting for you and then you call them every name in the book and blame them for it all.

Well, if I remember my history from 2008 Hillary supporters were racists. Then now in 2016, Sanders was both a racist and mysoginist.
Labeling and name calling is part and parcel of the political landscape, Trump is just a less polished liar and politician but the message is the same.

There are several good articles out there on the many Obama voters that voted for Trump. *shrug* It seems you've found a comfortable answer though one that may not be quite accurate.
She lost Wisconsin to Obama in 2008. She lost both Wisconsin and Michigan to Bernie Sanders and yet it never occured to anyone on her campaign staff to spend more time at those locations.
It occurred to her husband, but apparently he was ignored.
