No fake news. That black flash was the percussion shock wave. It was over 2 miles wide. The mushroom cloud was just the aftermath. The massive concussion did all the damage.
The mother of all bombs is a legendary weapon that's very well known in the world's military community.
They are all custom-made, and I always thought one would be detonated sooner or later. Back in 2005, I recall some chatter about the possibility of dropping one in Afghanistan back then.
I think Trump may have realized a deployment now might kill a couple of birds with one stone (in a manner of speaking). ISIS is obviously hunting for some stomping grounds where they can retreat to and re-group, and MOAB probably made them think twice, and there's a young fat man with big ideas in Asia who may have been shaken by a weapon as powerful as an A-bomb that has none of the lingering after-effects.
That MOAB could lay waste to a nuclear production facility just as easily as it busted up the side of a mountain. And what the MOAB didn't get could be taken out with a Bunkerbuster right behind it. Those bombs are designed to penetrate deeply into solid rock underground bunkers and trash 'em, and they have never been deployed yet.
If those 2 fail to impress, that fat kid could also get a Daisycutter dropped on him, and one of those would completely wipe away whatever the first two missed.
It's said that the "blast radius" is 300m. That's not much frankly.
Miles, not meters. the 100 mile radius has the shock power of a small A-bomb. If that's not much, then what is it? The explosion was about as strong as the one that leveled Hiroshima. Just no fireball or radioactivity.
That's part of the reason why the bomb wasn't deployed earlier. ISIS provided the perfect target; there weren't any large towns nearby, no major roads that could be damaged, and nobody around but those we wanted to kill.
You can take it to the bank a lot of folks in high places are re-thinking a lot of things tonight. Some of those thoughts are gonna keep 'em up into the wee hours, too.
Why is everyone - especially the news - raving about this being the biggest bomb. It was a bomb. It kills people and destroys sh*t. Whether or not the bomb was justified has nothing to do with it's size. In theory a b52 could have dropped as much tonnage in a lot of smaller bombs. I wonder if there would have been so much blather about that?
Flashy things generate clicks.
In ww2 way more people died during the fire bombing of Tokeyo than either nuclear bomb, but the flash got everyone's attention and caused Japan to capitulate. The effectiveness of bombs is more than just what they blow up, it is the demoralization that is also attached.

The Moab isn't even close to the nuclear bombs of ww2. They shouldn't even be compared they are so dissimilar in size.
