Why anyone would start such a ridiculous thread is a mystery. I guess when one makes a fool of oneself so often, it no longer matters how embarrassing it might be.

It's the security and policing that is going to cost a lot of money and not the ceremonial pagentry which is carried out by the Army.

I should imagine that Trump would be safer in his proper Presidential Car, however if he wants to take the carriage that's up to him.

In terms of Buckingham Palace it's currently undergoing extensive refurbishment, and any Banquet may well be held at Windsor Castle instead.

Trump will ride in one of the newer state coaches, such as the Diamond Jubilee State Coach as the Four Ton Golden State Coach is notoriously uncomfortable.

I literally can't name one good thing about the Queen.

But she is a REAL Queen while he is a real###

Aw, give the Donald a ride with the Queen, in her golden carriage. Geez, the thing needs an outing every once in a while. Probably does it good getting it's wheels greased, and pulled around London by some horses.

If we have these things, they may as well get used. It seems to impress foreign leaders.......

Queen Elizabeth still provides weekly counsel to British prime ministers and generally is reported to have a brilliant military and political mind, and obviously an unparalleled experience and perspective.

<<When he kissed hands she was “gracious, but brief” according to Macmillan’s diaries, but he valued her grasp of foreign affairs: “She showed, as her father used to, an uncanny knowledge of details and personalities. She must read the telegrams very carefully.” >>

Most prime ministers value her counsel and discretion:

<<
The first Labour prime minister for 13 years, Wilson wanted to get the protocol right, and wrote in his autobiography: “Contrary to all I had understood about the procedures, there was no formal kissing of hands.”

But he enjoyed his weekly meetings with the Queen. He said they were the only times when he could have a serious conversation, which would not be leaked, with somebody who wasn’t after his job....

But Heath, like his predecessors, found her well-informed – she “is undoubtedly one of the best-informed people in the world”, he wrote....

He has called her “compassionate, shrewd, well-informed, pragmatic and wise, with an unshakeable commitment to duty”. He says she “may well offer counsel – perhaps through well-directed questions – that any prime minister would be foolish not to consider with care. All of them soon learn that the Queen, far from being cut off from her people, is very much aware of the shifting tides of public opinion – indeed often ahead of it.”>>

And the Queen's prestige as head of state and popularity can be of important benefit to prime ministers, as Margaret Thatcher learned:

<<While other premiers enjoyed weekends at Balmoral, Thatcher saw them as interrupting her work. But the Queen did help to broker peace over the Falklands victory service, when church leaders wanted a service of reconciliation, which Thatcher thought betrayed the soldiers.>>

It is well known that Queen Elizabeth has championed the Commonwealth, and the Commonwealth (with 52 nations covering 20 percent of earth's land area and representing a third of global population) is of immeasurable benefit to the UK. Consider also that she has managed to stay monarch of over 15 nations, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Queen Elizabeth even remains the head of state of countries such as Canada.

As someone with a living knowledge of events and world leaders as far back as the 1930s, and certainly of World War II, she is an immense treasure to British leaders in an increasingly history-deprived world.
I don't believe one word.

She's a paper queen, while Trump earned his Presidency.

And to be fairer still The Times were merely quoting official trusted sources including the Metropolitan Police who have stated their worries regarding security and that the Coach will not be as secure as the Official Presidential Vehicle.

A coach being the normal mode of transport for most State Visits, however the last two State Visits by US Presidents (Bush and Obama) have seen US Presients forgo the Coach and use the Presidential State Car, which is faster and offers much greater levels of security.

According to the report published in The Times, the White House has requested a coach from the Royal Mews be provided to transport the president.

Whilst a coach has been customarily used by other visiting heads of state, the two past visits of the United States specifically have seen the sitting president choose instead to travel in his presidential state car. The request for the provision of a coach reportedly caused security concerns among British officials

According to an officer at the Metropolitan Police interviewed by The Times, the presidential state car can "travel at enormous speed" and "withstand a massive attack like a low-level rocket grenade", while coaches of the Royal Mews are drawn by horses and are "very flimsy"
