I guess we really have entered backwards bizzarro world.
People dislike NATO, Love Putin and McCarthy and who knows what else?

Sad statement for any hope of "for the people" we had left.

I think some of you are confusing personal and community behavior (many churches are communist) with an actual system of government. If we had gotten to the point of having a Communist Political Party (major) with over 30% of the population supporting it - then I can somewhat understand the big corporations and the existing two party system being against it. But nothing of the sort ever happened....so it was all made-up fear.

Just like today. We Americans are no longer the home of the brave but more the hiding place of those scared of just about anything and everything.
To bad you're among the minority who can see this for what it is. Stimulating fear and the manipulation of it has been a very useful tool for those with power cravings. It has never been more graphically illustrated than today's political scene.

It doesn't matter whether he was right or wrong. As Americans we have the right to be idiot communists if we want and not have to worry about being harassed by the gov't.

Talking Was Joe McCarthy a hero or a villain?

It's very simple.

No complexity involved whatsoever.

McCarthy was a demagogue; a con man taking advantage of America's Red Scare in the 50s.

He sold himself as some sort of patriotic crusader, but he was nothing more than a BSing drunk.

Fake accusations, BS, self-serving baloney, etc.

Kind of both. He was right about a lot of things, but he took the communist witch hunt pretty far.

I think he deserves at least some credit. There definitely was an effort (pretty successful one) by the communists to infiltrate positions of influence in the US, but people try to completely dismiss that.
