South Korea, Japan balk at admitting Syrian refugees – World Tribune: Window on the Real World

Quote:
South Korea’s Ministry of Justice confirmed on Feb. 2 that “civil war is not sufficient grounds for granting refugee status,” The Korea Observer reported.

A ministry official said Seoul is also concerned of the risk of sexual assaults which could occur should any migrants be allowed in.

“Judging by what we see in Europe, we would prefer to protect our women, rather than potentially place them at risk,” the official said.
Of course the *******s will tell you different.

Meh. It is their country, their rule.

Since they want to protect their women so badly, I assume they will do everything they can to deal with their N.K problem, ALONE!

Then the policy makers should house ALL of the "refugees" NOT the people in this country. I NEVER wanted to meddle in the ME or anywhere else.

WHY don't they want the refugees, is the point. Along with the burden of cost come the culture clashes.

A ministry official said Seoul is also concerned of the risk of sexual assaults which could occur should any migrants be allowed in.

“Judging by what we see in Europe, we would prefer to protect our women, rather than potentially place them at risk,” the official said.

While the left here denies there's any refugee problem in other countries, we hear from yet another country about the same concern.

Yeah, because I'm sure many Syrian immigrants are looking to move to South Korea (of all places) by the thousands.

According to this article,

UN treaty

Some observers accuse South Korea of not fulfilling its commitment as a signatory of the United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, a treaty that defines who is a refugee and what responsibilities a host nation has in providing for that individual.

"Clearly Seoul is reluctant to undertake those obligations except for in the most clear-cut cases," said Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch's Asia division.

Robertson said South Korea's humanitarian visas are an "artificial category" that "gives less rights" to asylum seekers, noting that Japan, too, has come under similar criticism in regard to its refugee policy.

"Both Japan and South Korea are relatively wealthy societies that could afford to provide resettlement assistance to refugees," he said. "There is a reluctance to have refugees become a part of that society."

South Korea Faces Criticism Over Refugee Policy

This is why treaty and UN are both useless. Each country should mind her own business. How come they don't criticize China for not accepting refugees?

In Gaungzhou, China there's a small African community comprised mainly of Nigerians. Judging by how volatile relations are between this community and police, it's pretty easy to see that East Asia in general is not a very accepting place for immigrants.

Asian nations are a pretty bigoted bunch. I think the odds that middle eastern Caucasians could be assimilated there are pretty much zero.
