Chaffetz may be positioning for a Presidential run in 2024. He won reelection in 2016 with ~74% of the vote. Not serving in the House will give him more time in Utah, where the next Gubernatorial contest is 2020.
How many Congressmen have gone onto the Presidency?
Good riddance, that said I am curious as to why he is getting out now. Is he going to challenge Orrin Hatch? Has he been implicated in one of the Trump scandals?
Oh and one last thing. I hope Evan McMullin runs for his seat and wins!
My first thought with this is that with Obama spying on congress, there might be something leaked on Chaffetz and he wants to be gone to save some embarrassment.
I hope more career Republicans do the same to make way for those outside Washington.
