The French heaped a whole lot of manure on the Middle East and other parts of the Arab world. Being a player on the big stage in that way makes you susceptible to blowback. There will come a time when France won't have so many problems with their various immigrant groups, but they aren't far enough removed from their history yet. Maybe in another 20 years, things will be much better.
While I agree that things should look better in 20 years taking in refugees now is just adding fuel to the fire.

Some people argue that colonized nations are better off than what what they would have been like if colonization had never occurred. The colonizers built roads, schools, implemented government and laws.

I guess we'll never know as there aren't many non-colonized "poor places" on earth to compare it to.

And when the colonizers leave(either through a violent rebellion or they simply abandon), these infrastructures get better or worse? Do the natives improve upon them, maintain them, or do they degrade?

Warning, the answer can and will trigger some.

France doesn't take in many immigrants at all. Some 200k a year the past years. Over half of those are from Europe and the Americas.

In the case of Haiti and much of the African continent, it got a lot worse.

Ethiopia wasnt really colonized. Singapore was. Ethiopia is dirt poor, Singapore is very rich.

The "third world" are far better off today than they have ever been. Better health, education, technology, economy, human rights etc. The top 1% in those countries ruled with an iron fist for millennia and prevented change and development from occurring.

The same people who blow up infidels in western countries blow up girl's schools, atheists, heretics, ex-muslims, islamic minority sects, christians and other groups in Muslim countries.

That should put an end to any argument that these terrorist groups are just "defending themselves" against western people.
