Historically wives of US presidents were drawn from the same pool as other politicians, business executives, physicians, attorneys, etc... any sort of man with a career that was going places (or planned to), and needed a partner; that is a woman of great virtue with a near blameless past. If her family were "one of our very best", then that was icing on the cake.
Unlike parts of Europe where convent educated, finishing school, and a proper blood line mattered, it still was accepted rule that any female with a "past" wouldn't pass muster.
That DT got the backing of the Christian/moral majority shows what hypocrites they truly are; the man is a serial philander who is not only divorced but has two former wives living.
Go back just sixty years or so and the mere thought of a divorce was enough to prompt Joe Kennedy to open his wallet in order to keep Jacqueline Kennedy from bolting after she was fed up with her husband. It was *NOT* a well kept secret that JFK was a "hound" and nearly constantly humiliated his wife, but the Kennedys couldn't risk the scandal of divorce wrecking their plans.
MT is not the first female to use what she had to get what she needed/wanted; but the fact she is now the highest "lady" (and I use that term loosely) in the land just galls some people. Just like some people cannot get over the daughter of an airline hostess (Kate Middleton) married Prince William and will be queen of England one day.
If there were only rumors about MT, perhaps things would be different. But that so much photographic evidence exists simply adds more fuel to that fire.
Have said this before, NYC and other areas of the USA that have a decent supply of wealth men are filled with Eastern European females on a mission. Bottle girls, bar hostesses, models, mistresses, whatever; their goal is clear; to land a wealthy American husband.
Thing is if you've ever been to Eastern Europe including Russia you'd know these girls *may* be astounding in America, but they are pretty average to normal back home. At least when young many Eastern European females and males are quite to very attractive. Later on is another story....
Republicans were (are still are) beyond disgusting in their comments about Michelle Obama so yes I am going to talk about Melania Trump's unsavory sex worker/lesbian soft porn past.
Republicans want us to forget that Melania showed her hooha for money in a lesbian photo shoot because she is a white woman but it will NEVER be forgotten that Melania Trump is not a decent women and certainly is no lady,
Its the hypocrisy of the Family Values Conservatives that complained about Michelle Obama wearing a sleeveless dress yet Melania can have a lesbian photo shoot and show ALL of her bare lady bits and not a word from the Republicans
For me, I don't really care what she did prior, but it is the nature of why and how she ended up with HIM, which says a lot about what sort of person she is and the desperation involved. There is an apparent lack of genuine attachment between them, having gotten together for superficial reasons and must be an empty existence. It seems she will leave him, sometime after this W H fiasco ends. I believe she is the lesser of two evils though and after she "escapes", will be better off.
What gets me is that, just due to being "eye candy", she can be put on a pedestal by some.
I think she's getting remarkably little flak, considering her racy past. It's a good thing the Dems aren't as misogynistic as the cons. The things that were said about Michelle Obama would curl your hair.
I like Melania's clothes. She was wearing a great trench coat the other day.
Hopefully we'll get to see more of her after the kid finishes school. I'd rather look at her than her husband any day of the week.
OP, as other posters have said, it's due to the right-wing hypocrisy. They are the family values party and, as others have said, picked apart Michelle Obama.
I think it's "refreshing" that anyone in this country can be anything, but if you are hypocritical about it, I'm going to call it out.
Granted, as far as men go I don't think most men care, but women especially seem to give her lots of flack for her past. Particularly her being an immigrant that used her looks to make money via photo-shoots, marrying a rich man etc. For one, consider where she was born, not exactly the best or easiest place to get ahead, so in the same circumstances for the more physically attractive women you can't say you wouldn't use your looks under the same circumstances. Second and most importantly: If you believe women - especially as a feminist should be allowed to do whatever they want, and are all about "empowerment" then shouldn't she get a pass? If feminism is supposedly really all about women being able to do what they want and make their own choices should what she has done if anything be empowering?? Imagine back in the day such as the 50s it came out that a mans wife used to do very risque photos and such, he would have been crucified by just about everyone.
Yet if anything this should show that feminism has worked and despite her past it shouldn't matter. Heck, wouldn't a lesbian, pansexual, geenderqueer, former stripper and porn actress somehow gaining the highest office be a feminist wet dream? Feminists always say "you have no right to say or judge what a woman is" so clearly this should apply to Melania just as much as any other women.
"but women especially seem to give her lots of flack for her past."
"but women especially seem to give her lots of flack for her past."
Correction, VERY LIBERAL dem women...
I think millions of women could care less about her past.
