A proper shooting war? Not even remotely likely. They don't have the resources. Some high-profile effective weapons systems - their artillery may be the best in the world for area effect right now - but there's no logistics system backing them. (The dark horse being of course an effective anti-carrier weapons system. That would blunt US power projection, badly. It might also invite a strategic response, and nobody wants that.)

Bit of cyberwarfare, sharing of ELINT with Assad and North Korea, posturing and response testing? Sure. But if a Russian unit actually fired at a US one, you can bet your last ruble that it would be called the act of a splinter fraction/agent provocateur/lone madman/separatist group inexplicably armed with advanced Russian weaponry. All of whom have since inexplicably gone missing.

Now, if I was Estonia, I'd be looking over my shoulder.

Medium range?, all North Korea has to do is nuke Seoul, which is just 35 miles from the border of NK if they want to start a nuclear war. If they did that, the US would probably wipe NK off the map.

Well I was addressing how the Russian or Chinese could really mess with us.

Not that Russia or China are clamoring for war. Or clamor for North Korea to use nukes on South Korea. Basically the move would to be to get under the US's skin.

Now. Could that backfire on everyone in the end.....well......that's a definite possibility.

And I wouldn't.
( I hope the translation is fairly good here, so it explains that it's not "about Estonia" - not at all.)

I don't think Russia wants a hot war with the U.S. I do think that many in the U.S. would like a conflict--thinking it would eliminate a powerful foe. I believe that is wishful thinking as a conflict with Russia would be the "waltz of the grateful dead"
When I hear an attempt to co-exist and find more cooperation with Russia the imperialists shout treason and claim we can't trust the Russians. I think our relationship with them can and should be improved. There are many reasons to believe this is possible.

I don't dwell on the idea we can or should eliminate all adversaries. The world is not intended to be that way. "There shall be wars or rumors of wars"----ever heard that?

Militarily the US was the safest under the Obama adm. when it wasn't important to project a #1 status but still carry a very large stick. Everyone sees the bully or champ as the one to defeat---eventually a way is found and they will be defeated.

I also look at divide and conquer. Military action in the middle east---the Korean peninsula---Russia ---we better hope NATO comes through. We would be spread a bit thin. In the best case scenario a sanitary world would not emerge. Remember---"war or rumors of war".

Not sitting through 12 minutes of Putin BSing. Is there a point in there, beyond him hating missile defense? Something about Romania as well, for whatever reason. The Estonians should feel better, because...?

Fomenting a war only benefits the usurers who lend to all combatants.
Russia is depopulating, thanks to decades of socialism. There is no population pressure to drive them to seek "living room." In fact, they have too much under used territory and lack sufficient population.
Ditto for socialist Europe, suffering from a pensioner boom and a taxpayer base collapse.

We're being manipulated into conflict for all the wrong reasons.

Not very likely. He's got ONE aircraft carrier, and it has to have tugboats sail next to it in case it falls apart at sea.

What is the point of trying to progress socially or to evolve humanity or colonize space when half the the planet can't think about anything but robbing or killing each other or fighting over who someone sleeps with or whether their god is better or not.

So fine, have at it. Blow the place up. I just don't care anymore.

I'm going to go button the bunker up now. See ya when the nonsense is over if we are still here.

Arrrgh!!!

The situation in Syria is a more likely catalyst for conflict than North Korea when it comes to the Russians.

You also have to remember by interfering in North Korea, Russia may risk the wrath of China.
