I would seriously like to see that happen

there is a great lack of respect here in America.
Amazing the hypocrisy.

They want to burn the flag since they hate America but want an open door policy so people can come here. Why don't liberals just leave and discourage people from coming here instead?

I agree, but contrary to the Title of this thread, it would have to be Congress. Congress is the lawmaking body, not the White House. But I realize the Leftists on here would love to be able to jump down Trump's throat and claim he is acting like a dictator!

Of course both sides lose their minds when it happens because they're the only ones dumb enough to believe it.

Heck, we have another thread going on right now talking about impeaching the fascist dictator for "attacks on the constitution" by doing stuff like disagreeing with courts etc.

People have really gone bat-crap crazy around here....even some that used to be more moderate.
That they have! They so want to find grounds to impeach Trump on, they are claiming everything is "unconstitutional."

well, honestly I sat and watched the republicans do the same to Obama, and I'm trying to be fair....everyday on FB they were printing fake news just like some liberals are now, screaming for impeachment...so, it works both ways....honestly it does.....

Now maybe I wasn't as tuned in during Bush's reign, but I don't remember the media being quit so biased...
there is no room for anything good, it's all gloom and doom....unless of course there is a democratic office reign....

so the division is not only from within the party, but also the media....I watched in horror as they discredited police, including the mayor of Philly

Never. You sue people in civil cases, you prosecute people in criminal cases. Now, are people prosecuted for disturbing the peace? All the time.

My point is, it is now mostly being ignored...yes, it was a strong law in my day, when people did go to court for this all the time....
Still do. Check up on the arraignments of your local courts, you'll find dozens of cases. You need to inform yourself a bit, I think.

It used to be against the law to desecrate the flag.... then they changed it and you could....Hillary wanted to bring that law back....so did her husband....
So what? The Supremes found that it was symbolic speech and as such protected by the 1st. I would like to hear a cogent argument why this sort of speech is so specifically dangerous to society so as to merit an exemption from the 1st. The bar is set high - you have to present a specific reason why this particular type of speech causes damage to society that is so evident that it merits reducing the constitutional rights. "It really hurt my fee-fees" is not one of them.

it's like a kid who starts out at the age of 8 years old, he goes into a convenience store and steals a pack of gun, the next time, he steals a 6 pack of beer, the next time, he breaks into a house, and robs all their electronic equipment, and the next time he steals a gun, and the next time, he shoots someone.

A criminal doesn't start out being a criminal at the age of 8....and neither does society....it is though a result of a corrosion over years and years of tiny issues, until it manifests and becomes a cancer within...
That's just a slippery slope argument. And it makes no sense in context. Stealing a pack of gum is still illegal, right? The presence of a law banning the first step didn't work, in your very own simile.

Seems self-evident, frankly. Symbolic speech is still speech.

I actually heard some stretching that to burning buildings, etc. was protected under their right to protest.
I think I'd like cite for that.

If we're lucky, Trump will sign an EO banning flag burning and we'll get to watch a federal judge slap him down again. That never gets old.
I would pay to see that. Hilarity.

I respect what the flag STANDS for, but the flag itself is a piece of cloth and if some people want to burn it, turn it into a bikini, or slap it on a hat, let them knock themselves out.

Exactly.

If anything, I think it's more insulting and disrespectful to the flag when people wear it as underwear (boxers the like). Yeah, much more respectful to use the flag to hold your junk...
