Sorry but - I'd rather put my money DIRECTLY into the hands of those who NEED it.

BTW, when was the last time you worked at a homeless shelter, or a Food Bank?

There has been questions about where does the money go that we give the government.

Well, as you note, I focus first on my family - and their security. And, due in part to may withdrawing from Social Security, I have assured my families future.

As for the accusation that I don't care about others or the greater good, I can only say that I know where my money goes - it goes directly to those who need it most. At the risk of being somewhat self serving, my wife and I have, directly provided housing to homeless - food, education (we have a foster child who we are now putting through college) - we work those who have severe mental disabilities. We work directly with kids who are dying - through the Make A Wish foundation. And theres more - but hopefully, some will get the idea that the government is not the be all end all for helping people.

I don't believe in the creation of a welfare state as some here claim they do. I believe in the power of the individual and groups in helping others. I believe that private people and groups can provide more than the government can - faster, easier, less expensive, more efficiently than the government ever can.

So, if some wish to belittle my contributions, or those of people like me, than go for it. I am proud of what my wife and I do, and are doing. And, I'm proud of those that do the very same things we do - and MORE -

OBTW - the "corporate welfare" comments? They are pure Bovine Scatology.
What you and your wife are doing is simply awesome. Like you said the power of the individual is amazing.

It is corporate greed, that will pressure middle class which is declinign into poverty WHAT is going to destroy USA!

As people sink to the bottom, THEY will have nothing to loose.

YOu can work in 1000 shelters at the same time, BUT you will not solve poverty 10s of millions people face, NOR can you rpovide them with health coverage.

Explain to me, how can you individually SOLVE 50 million uninsured, undersinsured, and those dying for healthcare?

It's a project far to large to take on.

Can you find 1000 000 free doctors to work with, and GET free medications for poor? Pharma won't give them to you...

No, sry, you can't CHANGE and solve that problem.

This is about corporate greed... therein lies the problem. And i fail to see how, supposedly compassionate person can support SUCH a thing.

Insurers and pharma put profit before people. That's inhumane.

Other than that i SUPPORT helping people in any WAY, but this WILL not change the HI problem USA has.

PLEASE, just PLEASE, don't deny again that there is a problem...

Careful guys, we don't want to hurt ourselves patting each other on the back. Yes, many of us do personal charity work, but the need is much more than idividuals can provide in thier spare time. Full time agencies like the Salvation Army are serving many more because social programs have been cut back. There are more homeless due to cut backs in mental health services. These types of issues (IMHO) are better addressed by a comprehensive gov't program. Because I am involved in admistering funds at a local level, I see a problem with scattered programs being taken advantage of by some and still missing some of the most needy.

No, it is you who ALWAYS lies and denies...

"The Census Bureau reported Tuesday that 47 million Americans had no health insurance in 2006, an increase of more than 2 million from the previous year. Health correspondent Susan Dentzer discusses the growing problem. "
