There may be no single simple answer as to the reason why Trump was, against all odds, elected. But I was wondering...

There are a number of analysts who believe that Trump is the backlash against Obama - that all the people who were so flagrantly racist (the racism that came out in the slurs, or in the birther controversy, or the Muslim fantasies) were so enraged at having to hide their racism that it finally exploded when Trump arrived on the scene to legitimize it. So they adored Trump.

But I was wondering if maybe there's an explanation that's totally the opposite.

I wonder if maybe there were many people who voted for Obama who weren't very politically engaged, weren't really thinking much about him or the issues, but just latched on to him because he was the promise of something new, the candidate that was the furthest from Bush or McCain. And then in 2016 they did exactly the same thing - they didn't pay much attention, but just latched on to what seemed new. Hillary has many good qualities - she's smart, experienced, eloquent - but she's not "new." Perhaps these voters even were initially attracted to Bernie Sanders, who was so different. But then when Bernie was out of the picture, they latched on to Trump. They didn't really care about his racism, sexual harassment, lies, ignorance, etc. - they just wanted something new, maybe an eternal dream of a candidate who will bring about some idyllic vision of an improbable America. And they couldn't be bothered to actually pay attention, so maybe they didn't realize completely realize what they were voting for.

Yes, 40 years of class warfare against the working class from the ruling donor class is taking its toll. People are hurting, have legitimate grievances and are desperate for help.

Relentless attacks on the unions, erosion of the minimum wage, deregulation of wall street, anti-worker trade deals, weakening anti-trust laws...the list is endless of vicious attacks on the working class of America.

The class warfare is not letting up anytime soon, Trump is accelerating it, and the regular folks are not prepared and dont know what to do.

The answer must be to channel these legitimate grievances into constructive solutions. That's what unions were for and why unions have always been the first to be attacked by the big money elites. Rebuilding the union movement and joining organizations that fight to get big money out of politics should be a duty for all Americans.

WHY is there so much talk of racism? Okay Obama was the first half black guy to be President NOT because he was black but because he was seen as the best man for the job. People started seeing through him in 2012 but the Dems pulled out the race card and made people feel that if they didn't vote for him they were racist.

Obama had his way with the country for 8 years and those who opposed him ran the risk of being called racist.
The Left has tried to hang the racist label on Trump since he started to pull ahead of the GOP crowd.

Trump might be a backlash against Obama but it has nothing to do with race but more to do with Lefty policies that left the average American to ask "what is happening to the country I love?"

Hillary promised more of the same. Trump was a chance for the something different and that is why he won. It has nothing to do with race.

Weak little liberal minds, at it again. Running away with creative narratives of their own imagination. There is no shame in losing. But what liberals are doing amounts to behaving like a bunch of sore losers.

Trump won in great part but not wholly, by appealing to a racist element in this country that were all too happy to vote for someone who disparaged hispanics, blacks, immigrants and the other.

To deny the race issue had nothing to do with "Little Hands" winning is to deny both reality and the ugly racial history of this Country. Also, last I checked Steve bannon who is the poster boy for the alt right and white nationalism, is just down the hall in the WH.

Give me a break.

Oh come on, cut it out. Trump appealed to people's Id:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id,_ego_and_super-ego

He's had the audacity to make absurd promises. And he's a "strong man". Combine those factors and the low information voters that think he will bully the world to make them rich. That's how our electorate failed.

I'll state it another way. OJ Simpson was to a murder trial like Donald Trump was to our presidential election.

Rural America was enraged by the culture of political correctness during the Obama years. They were angry about things like #BlackLivesMatter, transgender rights, gay marriage, and marijuana legalization. They were angry about the rise of the social justice warrior movement. They were energized to get out and vote for Trump. Meanwhile, many Democrats and Independents weren't super excited about Hillary. She was forced on everyone because it was "her turn" when there were so many better, more popular options out there.

Turnout won it for Trump and yes, Trump is a backlash against Obama.

the SJW - cultural marxist movement is financed by the ultra capitalists , its a distraction from real left wing politics which can help working class folk

the left ( which dominates the media ) is concerned about two men being able to adopt a kid , they should be worried about outsourcing
