Some certainly do but the majority of overweight people don't, they just lack self control.

The salon owner was tactless, whether she intended to be or not. However, I can't see this as a human rights violation. That terminology trivializes real human rights violations.

As for fat-shaming, it isn't helpful, it's just mean. Some people will use any excuse...

"Adie said workers at the salon told her they couldn't serve her, only her fiancé.

"She said, ‘You can't fit in the chair. You won't fit,’ and she kept repeating it, over and over again," said Adie.

Shocked and ashamed, the couple left."

On the surface, I don't see anything wrong with what the employee said. The customer could have broken the chair and injured herself too. Was it the tone of the employee's voice? I've known of a couple of shops with rude gossip mongering employees.

If she said it in front of a room full of other customers, I can understand the woman's distress. The salon owner should have taken her aside and spoken to her privately.

You've never had someone in a business be rude to you? Who hasn't? If you don't like the way they treat you, then don't patronize the business. It's pretty simple.

No need for a news story or a lawsuit. No one should feel sorry for this lady. She's a crybaby looking for attention.

Private non-essential businesses should have the right to refuse service for any reason even misogyny, racism or fat shaming.

"Human rights violation"??
What "right" has been violated?
OK, she had her feelings hurt. When did it become a right to never be offended or have feelings hurt?
She was a victim of poor customer service. Fine, deal with it and go somewhere else.
"human rights violation"? Bah, humbug!

I volunteer in the radiology dept. at a local hospital. When people are getting an MRI they must tell their weight and height to make sure they can fit into the machine. Some have to have an open MRI because of weight issues. Might be embarrassing but to have a successful scan you must be within certain parameters. Not shaming, just logistics.
