1. Flynn was hired by Obama and later fired because he refused to go along with Barack's weak foreign policy.
2. Flynn, as a private citizen, took a private consulting job representing Turkey.
3. Flynn was tapped by Trump to join his administration.
4. President Trump fires Flynn because he did not divulge his consulting gig to the VP.
Why is this a scandal???? The man is not even part of the administration. Flynn is an American hero. He holds a top secret security clearance. He should be RE-HIRED pronto.
2. As a retired general, Flynn is required to seek permission from the Army to work for or receive payment from any foreign government. By him retroactively submitting his registration paperwork, it appears he did not do this.
4. Trump said Flynn was fired because he lied to Pence about his contact with the Russian government. It now appears that this was a bigger deal because that put Flynn in a position to be blackmailed since Pence took Flynn's information and stated it publicly as fact. The fact that Flynn was consulting for a Turkish company (now known to be a front for a Russian oligarch) and the Russian government itself had not and was not mentioned.
Although the fact that President Obama warned Trump not to hire Flynn right after the election and Elijah Cummings sent a letter to Pence on the transition team regarding Flynn's consulting jobs is interesting because as Trump ignored the these facts when blaming Obama for Flynn's short comings.
In blaming Obama for Flynn, Trump neglected to say that Obama warned him not to hire Flynn. Trump also neglects to mention that they knew of Flynn's ties to consulting for Russia when they stated that Flynn had no ties to Russia - even though Cummings sent them that letter on November 18th.
She is a partisan hack who does not understand the Constitution and was unqualified for the job.
She understood it enough to smack down Sen. Cruz in his attempt to discredit her on the issue of not supporting Trump's Muslim ban executive order. Cruz had no response but to say thank you and scurry away with his tail between his legs.
As I also previously stated, which you ignored, was that Yates was fired for doing exactly what Attorney General Sessions asked her about during her confirmation hearing, "You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things and you need to say no. You think the attorney general has the responsibility to say no to the President if he asks for something that's improper?"
The allegations that a National Security Advisor had dealings with a foreign entity, and that both the Attorney General attempted to reach out to the current President with evidence; and the fact that the outgoing President, in those 'transition chairs', told the current President, straight up, Mr. Flynn was bad news. The fact that an Attorney General and an outgoing President were virtually ignored....are deeply troubling!
She may have been qualified, but it wasn't her job to judge the legality of an executive order. In reality, she should have been booted out long before that EO was signed.
Jeff Sessions thought it was he asked Yates during her confirmation hearing, "You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things and you need to say no. You think the attorney general has the responsibility to say no to the President if he asks for something that's improper?"
Trump was warned by Obama, Yates and his own staff about Flynn. Even the staff understood the issues.
Trump wanted to keep his BFF around so ignored everyone. Now he looks irresponsible and stupid. Trying to blame the entire mess on Obama looks even more stupid.
Tweeting the garbage he tweeted out during the hearings was highly inappropriate, low-class and strictly amateur hour.
Trump is a childish embarrassment to the country and he will never change. Sad!
It's a legitimate question. If they thought there was something amiss with Flynn, why did they renew his clearance, which I understand was the case? This was the Obama administrations doing.
"Don't hire this guy ...oh, by the way, we just gave him the highest security clearance possible."
I found it pretty amazing that even after he was warned by Yates he is has Flynn in his office on a phone call to Putin. Flynn goes on hiring people to the NSA staff, sits in on security briefings for 18 days.
Don't forget the letter Rep. Elijah Cummings sent Pence on November 18th regarding Flynn's potential conflicts of interest in relation to Flynn's lobbying work.
I wonder why that never seems to get mentioned.
