The GOP likes to call itself "prolife." It advertises itself as being the guardian of not only "family values," but "Christian" ones, as well. If anyone actually believed these claims in the past only a delusional fringe can possibly believe them now.

How is it pro life to take away healthcare outright from some 24 million Americans and to ensure that many if not most Americans with pre-existing conditions will pay an outrageous sum if they want to ensure their continued medical care? Many of those with pre-existing conditions will be priced completely out of any healthcare whatsoever. The Republicans celebrated the coming deaths of children, the elderly, and the disabled with rounds of beer and laughter. They are outraged that an 8 week-old fetus might be deprived of life but indifferent to the death of an 8 year-old child with leukemia whose parents can't afford the expensive rounds of chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy that would have saved her life. Their pro life stance melts away like congealed grease in a hot skillet when they are confronted by the plight of a low income disabled American who requires regular dialysis in order to survive and God help the little old lady who could have added 20 years to her life with the right medical care. The prospect of their passing is an occasion for celebration, not sorrow and certainly not remorse. Once the republican led house voted to decimate America's health care system and indulged in an orgy of unseemly joy at the egregious laws they had passed, they lost all integrity and all credibility.

I've been following the several different threads which have cropped up here about "evil" Somali refugees bearing full responsibility for a measles epidemic which - with only one or two exceptions - has impacted solely a single small Somali community. The concern expressed by some posters is ludicrous. You have consigned 24 million Americans to prolonged suffering and the eventual death of many by taking away their access to medical care and that includes preventive medicine such as vaccines. You don't want even Americans to have access to innoculations against deadly diseases and then you pour venom on 34 Somalis who didn't get vaccinated.

Yours is a logic of exclusion, xenophobia, and racism run rampant. You protest Planned Parenthood because you are paragons of pro life, Christian values and you can't wait to sign up for a place on a death panel because you want to make America "great" again. And never once do you hear the sound of the dissonance you have created roaring in your ears.

In the six years before Obamacare was enacted life expectancy went up by 1.35 years. In the six years after it went up 0.45 years. People are living an average of about 1 year less thanks to Obamacare.

They meant well.

Your mathematical logic has a flaw. If under six years of Obamacare, life-expectancy went up by .45 years, it did increase and did not diminish.

He also ignores that we can compare states that did expand medicaid, with those that didn't. And that lifespan is a more complex topic.

OP is a lefty sock puppet. Let's talk intelligently about the proposed Republican bill, which, by the way, has not taken anything from anybody and is being re-written entirely in the Senate to address concerns.

The Republican bill attempts to address the exploding costs of Obamacare by shifting the cost of pre-exisiting conditions to the tax payers in general. THIS IS NECESSARY AND GOOD because the Obamacare plan of getting healthy young people of the rolls failed, leading to exploding medical costs. What has been done to my healthcare and the healthcare of millions of Americans by Barrack Obama is in and of itself immoral. OP needs to process that before he/she can say anything intelligent about the matter.

Now, there are concerns from both Democrats and Senate Republicans. What the bill will actually do is to allow states waivers on Obamacare rules. Many people with preexisting conditions won't be affected at all depending on the states they live in, BUT THOSE THAT ARE AFFECTED WILL GET A "TAX CREDIT," WHICH IS ACTUALLY A SUBSIDY, which will help them pay for the increased cost of care.

The ethical question which will be answered is: does it go far enough? Is there enough money in the kitty to offset the costs? THIS IS A PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE THING TO ASK. Again, members of both parties are asking it. If OP was paying any attention to anything other than the Huffington Post and MSNBC, he/she would know that the House bill is DOA in the Senate, and that Senate Republicans such as Susan Collins are openly taking the lead in writing a bill that gives a better deal for those with prexisting conditions.

The great irony is that by moving the burden of pre-existing conditions to tax payers, the Republicans are actually moving it closer to being the governement-run system that the Democrats want. Most Dems are just to dumb to realize it.

The Dems screwed this up. The Republicans might be able to fix it somewhat, although it looks like a long shot. If Trump is really sly here, there is actually room for this to be a bi-partisan solution this time. NOBODY is talking about the drivel that OP is rambling on about.

Great post and thread.

24 million losing their health insurance is the CBO number for the previous TrumpCare bill. Republicans made changes to the bill to appeal to the Freedom to starve Caucus, but declined for obvious reasons to get it reassessed by CBO before voting on it.

This bill pulls a trillion dollars from services for children with disabilities, elders in nursing homes, those with pre-existing conditions... in order to fund a trillion dollar tax break for for rich.

There is just no getting around how craven and needless cruel this is.

Then there is this Republican effort to protect Trump in this Trump-Russia investigation.

Republicans are laying waste to their claims of being all about family values, fiscal responsibility, and patriotism.

Oh please. Former congressman Joe Walsh said aloud what many in the GOP think but are scared to say themselves.

"Sorry Jimmy Kimmel: your sad story doesn't obligate me or anybody else to pay for somebody else's health care."

Throw in the Jason Chaffetz quote and you get a bigger picture.

Republican claims to Christian values, fiscal responsibility, and patriotism is malarky.

Christian values are about loving one another, looking out for one another, judge not lest ye be judged.

Fiscal responsibility means budgeting your funds according to your priorities. War machine or children?

Patriotism is more than keeping your flag lapel pin right side up. Republicans are actively undermining our nation at this very moment by obstructing the investigation into Kremlin interference in our elections.
