Macron is, of course, everything Donald Trump is not. Pro-EU, pro-globalization, pro-immigration, anti-isolationist, left-moderate, young, talented, deeply intelligent, calmly and expertly versed in the actual issues facing his country, not remotely prone to flatulent, incoherent bombast or hollow reality TV bloviation for the sake of ratings or juvenile bragging rights."

A good read and all well put if you ask me...
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Well done, Macron—now we oppose you - Livemint

"Prior to the second round of the French presidential election, DiEM25 (the pan-European movement of democrats, mostly of the left, that I helped to found) promised Emmanuel Macron that we would “mobilize fully to help” him defeat Marine Le Pen. This we did—incurring the wrath of many on the left—because maintaining “an equal distance between Macron and Le Pen”, we believed, was “inexcusable”.

But there was a second part to our promise to Macron: if he “becomes merely another functionary of Europe’s deep establishment”, pursuing dead-end, already-failed neo-liberalism, we “will oppose him no less energetically than we are—or should be—opposing Le Pen now.”

They'll make Macron into Hollande/Mitterand if it's the last thing they do. Poor France.

Pretty much no matter where you go, the "haves" make out while the "have nots" grow more and more discontent...

Take any advanced modern day country, and they are all struggling with the same problem of too much wealth going to too few while "the masses" struggle along, and from this struggle comes the breeding of poor and less educated people coming to believe their problems are; the Muslims, or the immigrants, the minorities, or gays, or just about every punching bag they can punch other than the real source of their problems...

No matter your political leaning, when there is so much power and wealth in the hands of those who could care less about all those who have nothing, you can bet they won't allow any real change for the betterment of all concerned. Those in power, the "movers and shakers," are not about to allow any real change.

Changing the status quo, in America, in Europe, will always be unlikely, while meanwhile these headlines like now out of Manchester, England will continue to divert attention toward what the average citizen can understand far better than politics and/or economics.

... Poor France.
Reminds me an awful lot of how many liberals felt they had no choice but to support Hillary over Trump even though Hillary also represents much that liberals can hardly support in general about how the system works in favor of those in a position to take advantage, but we got Trump instead anyway.

"Poor France." Poor America.

Poor poor people everywhere...
