Not political at all, but possibly controversial.

Steve Harvey sends a memo out telling his staff to not approach him unless invited.

I personally do not have a problem with a boss laying down the ground rules right up front and honest.

Steve Harvey

He's like many modern liberals who are racist and homophobic in private, but publically calls everyone else racist and homophobic.

And what does this have to do with staffers not approaching Steve Harvey?

I just get this mental picture of you throwing a cat at the computer screen while you wrote that.

Don't have a problem with it as he's only saying to basically leave him alone when he's in his dressing room/getting ready to go on air. I thought the letter would be a snobbish way of telling the plebes to not approach him on account of being a celebrity, etc. But this just seems that Steve wants a little bit of "him" time.

I don't blame him. I've seen a lot of managers who are approached so much by some many staffers, each with a different problem, that the manager has a hard time keeping track of his own priorities.

Harvey is a talk show host. He has to have some time to prepare for that job every day, and if he fails because he's distracted, everyone loses their job if he does.

There are lots of ways to manage production crises and problems, large and small. Being jumped by a staff mob is never the best of those ways. Steve comes across as a very personable and easy to approach guy, and that has probably caused a lot of problems. He can't help being himself, so he just put out a notice to all that he will do the approaching, not them. I'm sure he has a couple of assistants who can openly talk to him most of the time; that's a typical solution to the constant distraction problem. Times like when he's in the makeup chair are probably the times when he's collecting his thoughts for the show.

Johnny Carson never saw any of his staff for 2 hours before the day's show started. He used that time beating on a drumset in his dressing room, working off his daily jitters. Lawrence Welk was always so nervous before a show started he could only eat a bottle of baby food. He would throw up everything else, but Gerber's strained carrots always soothed his stomach before he went on air.
