I'm always amazed to see Sean Hannity's name mentioned in the same conversations as Rush Limbaugh's. I went out with Sean once, when he was on WVNN in Huntsville. Very nice man in person. (This was years before he hit the big time OR got married.)
Anyway--Rush, like any other commentator, can be listened to if you like him, and turned off if you don't. He does editorial commentary on the news and on issues; he does not claim to be a journalist, does he?
He may not claim to be one, but operating in such a venue as he does, his message is just as surreptitiously effective.
See, I'm a minority in that I like Rush, but don't care for Hannity. To me, Rush is a much better communicator, has a greater grasp of why he believes what he does, and is fundamentally more optimistic.
I think Hannity truly believes that if a Democrat wins, anywhere, it will be the end of America. It's all or nothing with him. I lost respect for Sean after he started assassinating The Obamas' character, (especially Michelle) and tried to cast them in the same way he cast all the other Democrats. Also, he (And to a lesser degree Rush) don't like to call out Bush for the massive overspending he's gotten us into with the GOP congress. If he's such a champion of conservative principles he shouldn't reserve his wrath just for the Democrats.
Also, his attachment to conservatism is almost cult-like. As a christian I find it unsettling when he puts Ronald Reagan almost on a level with Jesus with his "What would Reagan do" segments. To me, conservatism is a political philosophy I adhere to, not my religion.

My husband shares your feelings exactly, especially those about Hannity.
Alright been reading all the "Im moving threads" and "Whats it like here" threads so I thought I'd throw something in different.
So how many are Rush Limbaugh fans? How many are "closet" Limbaugh fans?
I started to listen to him about 2 yrs ago. The very first time I had turn on his show was about 3 yrs ago and I was like......... This guy is out there!!!!! Nothing but stuck on himself and an ego maniac!! Granted I only listened for about 10 mins and he was probably on one of his "Every square inch of my glorious naked body" kicks. Since then though I've been listening to him just about everyday for a couple of hrs. (All I have time for) You start to learn that he isn't an ego-maniac. Since listening to him I've started to listen to Sean Hannity and Micheal Savage also. Savage is a little more staunch than Rush or Sean, but still a good listen. Although I'm not sure he really likes anybody. lol
Anyways with me coming from a Blue state and moving to a Blue state just thought I'd ask.
You should have just made the move a little farther into Idaho. Rush is pretty much on a golden pedestal and revered as a god, it's almost like a serious cult following... (Ok not that bad, but the only state with more red would have to be texass)
I used to be a 'ditto head' during the Clinton years - mostly because I was a conservative and did not like the Clintons. I consider myself more of a moderate these days (used to be a conservative - but becoming more liberal in my old age). Used to be a lifelong Republican - but no more - I am positive they could care less for the average working American.
Anyhow, I got tired of listening to Rush and Sean because they just seem to be shrills for the Republican Party. You can almost predict the stand they will take on any given issue even before they open their mouths. And nowadays, all they do is endlessly trash Obama... It gets boring and repetitive after a while - mostly boring.
I like to listen to Air America every now and then to get a little balance from the 'progressive' side - but they are pretty predictable in their Bush Bashing also.... (not that I have much respect for our current occupant of the White House).
I guess the one I tolerate the most nowadays is Michael Savage. Yes, he is a bit (quite) extreme at times, and loses his anger and composure a lot - he's the only one who seems to be a free thinker - he is not an ideologue but more an independent thinker - a bit crazy, but fun to listen to.
And as others have said in this post - you can always turn off the radio if they start to get on your nerves - Lord knows I have many times. WHen they get too extreme - I sometimes just shut the radio off and list to a Kenny G cd.
Personally I find those political talk shows, liberal or conservative, a slight step above the Jerry Springer show. Impolite, feigning as real coverage of news, and polarizing the country to make millions for themselves. A sign of the free market at its finest!
