Americans seem to have a very narrow view of what is right and what is left or socialist. I think they would be shocked by some of the left and right parties in Europe.
The French National Front is a fascist organisatio, albeit one that has softened it's image, and there has been a strong fascist vote in France over numerous years, including when Le Pen's father a holocaust denier stood for election.
So no I wouldn't say the French were any more intelligent, as for Macron he's an unkown quantity and has to establish his new party and go from no representation to a majority in the upcoming French elections or he faces being a lame duck president.
The traditionally very strong Left in France, don't like Macron as they see him as an Ex-Banker who wants to impose austerity, budget cuts and public sector job losses, as well as welfare reform. The Right equally hate Macron who they see as soft on immigration, Pro-EU and to weak to stand up against Merkel and Juncker.
This begs the questions as to whether the French Parliamentary Elections will see his new so called centerist party collect enough votes from the left and right of French politics.
The only thing the French Elections had in common with the US Election was that the electorate had a choice of two very poor candidates.
Here are two interesting articles pertaining to the French election. Like the U.S., they were targeted for far-right internet manipulation. However, unlike the U.S.:
1. They didn't give much credence to the right-wing craziness.
2. They understood that some of the revelations (akin to the Hillary so-called revelations) were inconsequential.
3. They made an effort to counter the online attacks.
They elected a man who says there is NO French culture and that people should get used to the terrorism in France and who will continue the destructive policies of globalism so no not a chance in the world are they smarter.
Macron did not say there was no French culture. He said there was no single French culture. This is the entire quote in context.
Quote:
“Our culture can no longer wall itself away from other cultures, as if under voluntary house arrest. We would not have the multiplicity of cultures, this amazing French cultural richness, which exists, by seeking to deny parts of it. French culture doesn’t exist in and of itself; there is no such thing as a single French culture. There is culture in France and it is diverse and multiple. And I will not exclude from this culture, certain authors or musicians or artists, on the pretext that they supposedly come from elsewhere.”
I don't see that as inflammatory. There is no single American culture either. For example, I was watching a documentary on Appalachia last night, and they have ways I will never understand. I'll point out the culture of Hollywood as being different from my own as well. Really really different. There is a huge difference between white culture and black culture here.
Here is what Macron said about Terrorism:
Quote:
"This threat, this imponderable problem, is part of our lives for the years to come. I would like to express my support for our police forces, and more generally the forces of law and order. I am particularly thinking of the victim's family. "
Which is true, much like it is true here. It doesn't happen as often here, but it does happen. He's just stating that terrorism is a part of life, he never once said that people should get used to it.
Its already a socialist country, freedom is not high priority.
Did you even read Le Pen program?
Le Pen
-Increasing public spending
-Increasing the number of public servants
-Increasing labor regulation
-Increasing regulation for business
-Lowering the retirement age
...
Macron
-Reducing public spending
-Reducing the number of public servants
-Easing labor regulation
-Easing regular for business
...
Macron is much more pro-business and much more for freedom than Le Pen.
Most of Le Pen policies are much more socialist than Macron. She would have destroyed French enomomy even further by doing all the things that didn't work.
Le Pen, anti-business policies would have increased poverty and increased unemployment.
His policies would not have prevented the terrorist attacks. She would have failed on everything.
I wouldn't say more intelligent. Maybe two differences would be :
- We have a very serious collective memory of what dictatorships and fascism are and of their consequences on the people (I'm not only talking about WWII occupation of the country, but also absolute monarchy and Napoleon, for example). The USA has hardly known those. Your revolution was far less bloody than ours (maybe thanks in part to our miitary and financial help )
- We tend to know and be concerned probably a bit more about world news, but's that's not a virtue by itself, it mostly comes from *not* beeing a super-power anymore.
As for massive rapes due to immigration? It's laughable.
Riots/demonstrations, we've always known those, they are in the French DNA (going back even before the revolution), almost a way of expression
Actually, I was just reading something last week that if you look at the main employment sector - and I don't know what it was, maybe ages 25-55 - it was very good in comparison with other countries. I'm assuming that the only reason you term it "bloated" is because you don't believe in public programs to benefit the general citizenry.
That dog won't hunt because over 51% of Americans are sucking off the gov teats. Pot - kettle stuff.
