I was born in the early 1990s (1992 to be exact) and people classify those during the Reagan/H.W. Bush/Clinton years as "millenials". I don't want to be lumped with the millenials as I have nothing in common with them. I don't watch stupid stuff like Jersey Shore or listen to Justin Bieber. Plus I prefer face to face interaction rather than spending hours texting on the phone (even to people right next to you). Just go to a coffee shop or a cafe these days. You'll see tons of them glued to their smartphones.

Whether you like or not you are still a millennial. It is just a name for your generation.
I was born in 1986, and to me, there's a huge difference between the BuzzFeed-type spoiled millennials and the ones who actually work for themselves and pay their dues to get ahead in life.
I don't know any millenials that are like the ones described on these message boards or by those self help gurus who make money creating pop culture issues and writing books about them.
I have three sons spanning 1988 to 1997. They are hard working, disciplined, have varying interests and grew up with too much tv, video games, computer, etc.
And they are all highly social, well read, interesting...and have never lived in a basement.
I think one of them has a friend who stayed in his parent's basement but most of their friends are either working two jobs until they can figure out their life's passion or they are in school studying to be Rn's, computer science specialists, engineers, lawyers, musical education directors, etc.....
Some have escaped their office life and now run small craft breweries or do photography but they are successful, enjoying life and contributing to the economy.
We have to stop trashing younger people. They aren't any worse than we were -- that's for sure.
I honestly hate millennials who claim they're not millennials. It's not something to be ashamed of and it's not as if millennials are carbon copies of one another or are entitled. Stop buying into the BS fed to you by older Americans.

This doesn't make you not a millennial. Also, no sufficiently observant person would think all millennials act the same. Because they don't. Just go to a coffee shot and have a face to face interaction with them. You'll find a much larger amount of diversity among them than you'd expect, or not expect. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Just as baby boomers and gen xers typically aren't all a hive mind. Funny how that works.
