They refuse to declare fatwa on their own lunatics because there is something in it for them.

He's embarrassing.

I think Merkel just showed everyone that the EU is still run by an adult, however.

Well, this is debatable.

Many Germans understand what is happening and think they should help refugees as much as they can. Many work in non-profit initiatives to help refugees. Then again they realized very quickly that they don't have housing for so many people (specially not in winter) and the police and border control are at their limits to manage registration at the crossing of the border(s). The camps (buildings) in Germany that are to hold the arrivals are totally overcrowded and there is violence.

I think it is interesting to note that

Merkel's first (and delayed) reaction to asylum-seeker's flood was very well received by a majority. In fact, there was a kind of people's pressure to take some measures to help asylum-seekers in effective form.

- Currently (early October 2015), given government officers and local authorities are overloaded just with identifying asylum-seekers, depending heavily on volunteers, things are not working as Germans love to. This week the first demonstrations against Merkel's decision. Support to Merkel's decision is becoming lower (or louder) than before.

Complex issues don't have simple answers.

Islamic extremism has many roots. It is a twisting of the teachings of Islam (as most would interpret it), It is also for the sake of power and control.

For a cultural history going back to the early 19th century (and further). The left and right (in America) are both right but only partially and that is part of the reason why we can't win right now. Both sides are too busy waving willies and trying to score brownie points to actually look at the complexity of the issue and grow up saying this is bigger than us and we need to cone together to solve it.

Take Hamas and the Palestinians or Iran as an example, they pay the families of terrorists and hand out large sums to the organizations, train them and/or give them shelter.

Time to COMPLETELY cut them off from the outside world via blockade until they stop it. No aid, no imports/exports no nothing. Either they will stop or their people will rise up and remove the leaders.
These people ARE their leaders. And their leaders ARE THEM. There is no distinction. Leaders are the distilled essence of those they lead. Our attempt to excuse insanity by morally compartmentalizing the leaders from the led is a logical contradiction. And an emotional reaction rather than a rational one. We just don't want to believe that "the people" in the larger sense could be in league with their leaders. But of course they are.

I pretty much agree with everyone here to a point. You all make sense in one way or another.

Nope they are not kidding. They need everything wrapped up with a pretty bow on it because it's ALL about perception and feelings with them, not truth and surely not reality.
