It wasn't a joke. Colbert used to be an incredibly funny guy who was really good at political satire. He just isn't funny anymore. Somewhere along the way he started taking himself too seriously.
I wonder how Colbert feels about his ratings being higher because Trump is President. If Clinton had won, he would be in 3rd place. Yet, thanks to President Donald Trump he is number one. It is safe to assume that had a conservative pundit made the identical statement except about Obama instead of Trump, that the FCC would have taken action.
