Okay, whatever you say. I'll just be over here in reality (a place much of the media likes to ignore).

He's not happy the trade deficit with Germany is steadily rising over 25 years.

Their trade surplus with the world approaches 10 pct of GDP.

Give me a break. No 'Leader of the Free World' gets his news from Sean Hannity and Fox & Friends and not only believes the crap they put out, but retweets it.

Trump has not acted at all like a 'traditional' president. He has not cut financial ties with his business, he and his family are unethical, corrupt and profiting off of the presidency, he kisses up to dictators and disses the 'Free World' as well as lying his ass off.

He does not to just get to claim some 'traditional' title like a crown.

He may be the 'Leader of Trumpworld' which is made up of those that do not care if he shoots people in the middle of 5th Ave.

But he certainly is not acting and has not acted like any 'Leader of the Free World' and he, in fact, is not.

As of now, he has not demonstrated that he can lead his way out of a paper bag.

You are both allowing your personal dislike of the person holding the office to color your viewpoint. The title of leader of the free world has and will continue to be in reference to the Office of the President of the United States of America.

Curious, do you know why the US President is called that and the origins of the title?

Of note, back when Obama was President, some conservative journalists said the same thing about him, how he was not the leader of the free world. He was. Just like Trump is now.

I think you are the one allowing your personal emotions to view Trump as a leader of anything, no less the Free World.

In addition, it really does not matter what conservative journalists said about Obama. Obama was respected by, as well as showed respect to, and had influence among, the leaders of the nations of the Free World. Trump, very simply, does not.

There is nothing in the definition of 'Leader of the Free World' that indicates it must be the president of the US.

Leadership and respect is not really something you can force upon people, and most people simply do not view Trump in that role, due to his own behavior, speech and actions.

"...The phrase has its origin in the late 1940s and became more widely used in the early 1950s. It was heavily referenced in American foreign policy up until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, and has since fallen out of use, in part due to its usage in rhetoric critical of American policy.

"...The use of the phrase is not exclusive to American leaders...."

Do you think this represents the "free world"? BTW Merkel is hated by the Italian & Greek public. I suspect the same can be said of the Spanish too.

Probably. As leader of the free world has more to do, historically, with military might (Cold War beginnings) and given the economic prosperity in Western nations post-WII, that's a fair argument to make.

To be fair, I really don't care enough to really argue this point with gusto but I just wanted to note, it is an honorary title which has conferred with the office. So when conservatives tried to say Obama wasn't, they were wrong and the reverse is true with Trump in office. It is kind of a stupid thing to argue about anyway.
