I believe some sort of disciplinary action should be handed down.

Absolutely yes, she should be fired. You'd think teachers - adults(!) - would have enough sense not to make jokes about something like that, especially to 13 year olds. That's just sheer verbal/social bullying right there. And enforce the antibullying laws or rules on the teacher besides.

yeah probably. Not 100% sure on fired-it would depend on the circumstances, and discussion with the parents. But if the parents are upset? Yeah.

Id have to say yes, because with so little common sense, teaching should not be her calling.

WTH?

It's like there's more to this story but, still not real smart for those "teachers" to do something like that.

You must have taken a wrong turn in the pets sub-forum to end up in P&OC.

I got the same feeling and, sure enough...

Lauren Easton, whose sister received the “white people” award, told CNN there were others, including one that read “Most Likely to be Homeless in Guatemala.”
“My initial reaction was shock,” Easton said. “I couldn’t believe a teacher could be that bold.”

...According to a similar statement from the Channelview School District, “the teacher involved in this matter have been disciplined according to district policy. and the incident is still under investigation.”
Easton says this isn’t the first thing the teacher has done that has raised eyebrows. Before this incident, the teacher, who is black, gave Easton’s sister “a ‘black quiz’ to prove how black she was.”
The students who received the “awards” were enrolled in AVID, an advanced learning and college prep program.

...this wasn't about mean redneck Texans picking on a Hispanic girl. It was a "bold" black woman taking shots at the smart kids.

I think she should be suspended for a year without pay. Her license should not be revoked. She should be given another chance to teach. She made a huge mistake . She made the one mistake NO educator should make. She became too comfortable with the demographic. Those kinds of jokes are reserved for the teachers lounge and at home around the dinner table. Never EVER on the job. Professionalism MUST be maintained at ALL times. I hope she learns from her mistake and becomes a great teacher in the future.
