Our crazy farm subsidies, explained | Grist

That is not for a product like the government if they choose to buy. That is to prop up farmers in the form of direct payments.
But they warned thier subsidies, not like those leeches in the coasts

Half the produce I bought at Costco this winter came from Costa Rica.

I thought California grew it "all"?

He might. Not me.

Good thing that stuff doesn't happen often (or in many parts of CA). Also, CA has a lot of snow - some of the highest snow totals in the lower 48, actually.

Just clarifying. CA is a big state, and the "landslides" and "fires" that people think happen all of the time in CA are localized. My mom constantly calls me and asks me about something that is happening 9 hours away from where I live ("did you hear about the big thing happening right by you!?").

People often have a hard time grasping how damn big this state is (partly a fault of the media simplifying things to just "CA" when they describe an event).

You mean the same Chicago that Obama is from? The one middle America and Trump is always bashing as a crime hellhole? That Chicago? Trump Tower Chicago is your evidence of Trump caring about flyover country and rural America? Uh--ok.

Next time someone brings up the horrors of Chicago, I'll remind them it is simply middle America--the Heartland.
