I personally wish Silicon Valley was forced to break up and spread out some of its economic benefit

Case is 100% right. VCs are only investing in a super narrow slice of "America." If you aren't a 20-something white male from an elite comloegr. It used to be one and had a successful exit, you have no hope of getting funding for your idea. 65% of the ideas that get funded are designed to make it easier for upper middle class and affluent people to avoid mixing with the "general population." Another 30% goes to creating software for tech companies to sell to themselves or Fortune 500 companies.

Meanwhile there is no innovation in the stuff that impacts daily life for the average American - because the average American - even in "Silicon Valley" isn't represented in the companies or the funding community. If we want to innovate we need more diversity in age, ethnicity, nationality, gender and location.

I receive no benefits from Silicon Valley other than unreasonable home prices

I guess if there's going to be projects funded that aren't reflective of the bubble of Silicon Valley, it would help if there are funders and angels who aren't in Silicon Valley...

While I somewhat agree with you, this isnt what Case is talking about at all.

Pro tip:

Ignore middle america and you get Donald Trump as president.

That's not to say middle america isn't filled with lesser people. It is.

But we should still lend an ear lesser people places in fly over country.

Why is the wealthy responsible for paying for the poor?
Why are the healthy responsible for subsidizing the unhealthy?
Why should the US pay billions in aid to poor countries?

Oh I could go on and on and on...

Maybe middle America is filled with people smart enough to realize that 3 bedroom ranch homes aren't worth a million dollars.

How about investing in "lesser people" who are poor, undereducated, who made some past mistakes, and who can't afford health care even if they do manage to work 80 hrs/wk for 20 years?
