Most other nations have chosen to march into the future and progress as the USA slides shamefully backwards and into irrelevancy thanks to the inordinate amount of rubes and bible thumpers that exist here.
As long as he is qualified for the job, then good for Ireland and any other place that has qualified peope in charge.
I think the "whoopty do" is that he got to do it because he was qualified, whereas you can be qualified here and still not get the opportunities bc of your sex, race, orientation, etc.
Am waiting to see how many and which local Saint Patrick Day parades in USA send invites for the new Premier to march as an honored guest.
New York City's Saint Patrick's day parade has been forced to accept "inclusion" and "diversity" including LGBT by the mayor, other elected officials, sponsors and Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Dolan (there is a story there, but we won't go into that now), but not everyone was happy. They even piled up and got shot of John Dunleavy, at least far as the parade goes.

Was he elected because he was gay and non white or good at what he does?
I wonder. Seattle's mayor is gay and a total idiot. He even dodged a bullet when it was exposed he solicited drug addicted teen boys in the 80s. He's a child molester ffs. At least he won't be running for mayor again.
We shouldn't be electing politicians for the wrong reasons people.
